Nature has the answers.

The hard part? Getting people to listen.

In our classes, we’re exploring both:
how nature solves problems—and how ideas actually take root in the real world.

If you’re curious, read how we're doing. And join us for more discovery and discussion on topics like this! https://naturelinksmaine.org/recent-classes/how-do-ideas-take-root

One of the best things to come out of our classes is the recipes we share.

Cooking is a big part of what — and how — we learn. We start by understanding where our food comes from, and sometimes that means right in our own front yard.

Last spring, we went all in — testing our soil, swapping seeds, growing food, and then actually cooking with what we grew. And honestly, I’m still making some of those recipes.

That’s how we do it in Nature Links.

It’s not about practicing tasks or checking boxes. It’s about building real understanding, learning from each other, and creating habits that support both our own well-being and the world around us.

And sometimes, it just means a really good meal shared along the way. 🍳🌱 We'd love for you to join us. Visit https://naturelinksmaine.org/join-us

At Nature Links, we learn by doing — and one of our favorite recent experiences was working with the generous, friendly, and outrageously knowledgeable folks at the .

They joined us for a hands-on session where we learned about native plants and pollinators, why they matter, and how to actually grow them ourselves. We prepped soil, planted seeds, and got our gardens started — with plants we’ll carry into the summer and fall.

Wild Seed Project equips communities with the tools to restore native plants, support biodiversity, and build climate resilience — and we got to learn directly from them. But it was more than just content; opportunities like this help us to build relationships, ask questions, practice communication, and learn directly from people who are true stewards of the earth. If you want to read more about our time with them, check out our blog at: https://naturelinksmaine.org/recent-classes/cultivating-connection

At Nature Links for Lifelong Learning, learning looks a little different than you might expect.

Our community brings together adults from across the country who are curious about the world and eager to explore it together. We learn about nature, animals, gardening, cooking, advocacy, and the systems that shape our lives — but we also spend time thinking about our futures, building confidence, and discovering what makes each of us unique.

Classes are interactive, welcoming, and designed so everyone can participate in their own way.

As one student shared:
At Nature Links for Lifelong Learning, learning looks a little different from what you might expect.
"Nature Links helps me feel like my ideas matter. I learn things I never knew before, and I get to share what I think too."

Learning isn’t just about information — it’s about connection, confidence, and community.

It’s almost Big Night!!! 🌙🐸

At Nature Links, we prioritize curiosity. Not just during our shared learning time, but *all the time.* We talk about what is going on in the world, but also, in our own communities and sometimes, even in our own driveways. Then we get curious!

Big Night is a perfect example of how we do that.

On the first warm, rainy nights of spring, frogs and salamanders begin migrating to their breeding pools — often crossing busy roads to get there.

So people show up. With flashlights, buckets, and a lot of care — helping them safely make the journey.

We’ll be out there too, in our own corners of the country, joining in and paying attention to what’s happening right around us.

Because learning doesn’t stop when class ends — it keeps going wherever we are.

We’ve been learning about civics—but not in the way most of us were taught.

Instead of memorizing systems, we’re asking:
And where does that power come from?
how is it possible?
and where does that power come from?

As we’ve followed those questions, we’ve found ourselves in the very real and ongoing story of tribal rights and sovereignty.

Not as a distant issue—but as something that shows up in our communities:
in landfill decisions,
in land use,
in the waters we all share.

This work is about understanding what’s happening around us—and how we’re all connected to it.

That’s how our classes run at Nature Links. We take big, real-world topics and explore them through the lens of nature, community, and the choices we make every day.

If you’re up for learning in a new way, we’d love to have you join us. Check us out at https://naturelinksmaine.org/join-us

It’s been a little while since we last posted, so we wanted to take a moment to reintroduce ourselves. 🌿

Nature Links for Lifelong Learning is a growing community of adults from across the country who come together to learn, connect, and explore the world around us. In our classes, we dive into all kinds of topics that help us better understand ourselves and the planet we share — from nature stewardship, animal conservation, cooking and gardening, to advocacy, person-centered planning for our futures, and even innovation and invention.

Every class is a chance to learn something new, share ideas, and celebrate the unique perspectives that make our community so special. Whether we’re talking about wildlife, growing food, or how to speak up for the world we want to live in, we believe learning should be joyful, curious, and inclusive.

And we’d love for you to join us.

If you or someone you know might be interested in learning with our community, reach out to us at [email protected] to join an upcoming class. 🌱

Have you been stopping to smell the roses? Nature Links Maine participants have been doing more than just smelling flowers recently. Check out our recent class on flowers.

“Earth laughs in flowers.” -Ralph Waldo Emerson Recently here in Maine, every day it seems as if a new species of wildflower is reaching its peak bloom, brightening yards, fields meadows and trails and piquing our interest here at Nature Links. In honor of this colorful display, we did a recent ...

A huge thank you to Wendy Wischer for visiting Nature Links Maine to share her incredible art with us. Wendy's work inspires us all to connect more deeply with our environment and each other.

As a young girl in Wisconsin, Wendy Wischer remembers spending summer nights staring up at the stars. The natural world was an important part of her upbringing and her identity. But when she moved to Miami as an adult, she realized not everyone grew up admiring a pristinely clear night sky as she ha

One of the greatest joys of teaching for Nature Links is seeing participants form deep connections with one another around nature. Students will often begin class by chatting about a new trail they’ve hiked, a storm that passed through the night before, or animals they’ve spotted recently near t...
