🌱 From Lawn to Living Landscape: Backyard Rewilding Workshop
Are you tired of spending your weekends mowing, watering, and fertilizing a lawn that gives little back to nature? Or maybe you've started planting native species and want to take your yard’s ecological impact even further?
Join Hancock County Soil & Water Conservation District and Native Gardens of Blue Hill for a workshop exploring how homeowners can transform traditional lawns into thriving, wildlife-supporting landscapes using native plants.

Fee is $10 per person
This immersive workshop will cover:
• What backyard rewilding is and why it matters
• How native plants support pollinators, birds, and soil health
• How to evaluate your yard’s conditions (sun, soil, moisture)
• Which native species work best in Maine landscapes
• Practical ways to reduce lawn while keeping your yard attractive
FEATURED SPEAKERS:
🌿Aidan Meidenbauer, Technical Services Manager at Hancock County Soil & Water Conservation District, will introduce the backyard rewilding movement and share how the District works with landowners across Hancock County.
🌿Cathy Rees, co-founder and Executive Director of Native Gardens of Blue Hill, will lead a deep dive into native plants and how to use them effectively in home landscapes.
Participants will also learn about free programs and services available through HCSWCD, including site visits, conservation landscape certification, and soil pH testing.
Whether you’re new to native plants or looking to expand your habitat garden, this workshop will give you the tools and inspiration to get started.
