This past year when the TPA was working through the process of Saving Our Ponds, we encountered many roadblocks that effected the quality and timeliness of our communications about the dam to our members.

These limitations highlighted the need to look at updating our website with the goal of increasing member engagement while making it easier for our team of volunteers to update and manage.

Michelle Keyo (michellekeyo.com) was chosen as the web designer. Michelle is local and has a client base that is similar to TPA. Michelle guided us through the process of determining roadblocks, needs and solutions. Here are some of the changes:

• New look – Cleaner and easier to navigate
• Functionality – Easier to manage, update and allows for more content
• Ability to highlight priorities and events
• Reviewed and updated all tabs – deleting obsolete information while enhancing others
• Enhance membership sign-up/renewal, volunteer sign up, merchandise and donation process

A special shout out to Robin Yurkevicz for taking on the job of website management for the organization. The changes in the website and constant updating represents countless hours of work. Thank you, Robin, for your dedication to managing our website and keeping us informed.

What has not changed is Our mission: To protect Toddy Pond and its watershed through responsible stewardship and education so that we and future generations may enjoy its beauty.

Please take some time to explore our new website…and if you have not renewed your membership…it is easier to do!

On November 4, local voters will decide whether to form watershed districts for Toddy Pond and Alamoosook Lake.

These districts would provide a local structure to manage and maintain the dams—no automatic spending or big tax hikes involved.

Get the facts from your town office or municipal website before heading to the polls!

Please see attached link to an article written by Trisha Thomas from The Rising Tide, a new nonprofit online news organization covering the Blue Hill Peninsula and Deer Isle. The article covers the information meeting the Narramissic Watershed Coalition held in Blue Hill recently. Please read and then share this article with friends and neighbors and ask for their support in November.

As we get closer to election, the NWC will be engaging in grass root efforts and will need volunteers to support them. We will need volunteer's now more than ever, please visit the TPA website to volunteer.

Please support through the GoFundMe link on this page. Both lake associations are investing to inform residents of the 4 towns on the issue and solution. Thank you!

A new online calculator helps homeowners estimate their increased tax costs if towns take control of the dam at Toddy Pond.

Last week the Narramissic Watershed Coalition held information meetings in each of the 4 towns Surrounding Toddy Pond. The intent of each meeting was to inform residents on the issue and to present facts on why and how both lakes should be saved.

Attached is an article written by Jennifer Osborn from the Ellsworth American that summarizes the meeting.

Please share this article with any friend or neighbor, especially if the live in Blue Hill, Penobscot, Surry or Orland for their support to Saving Our Pond!

***Dam Ownership Cost Estimators:

The Watershed Management Districts

Under legislation passed earlier this year, voters in the four towns abutting Toddy Pond and Alamoosook Lake will vote in November on whether to form two Districts, the Toddy Pond Watershed Management District and the Alamoosook Lake Watershed Management District, and to appropriate taxpayer funds for the Districts' first fiscal year.

Estimated Costs of Ownership

Everyone involved recognizes that most property owners and voters want to understand what the likely costs of assuming ownership of the dams creating those water bodies will be. To assist waterfront property owners and other town voters in understanding these costs, and putting them into perspective, volunteers have prepared two "Dam Ownership Cost Estimators" — one for the Towns of Blue Hill, Penobscot, and Surry and another for Orland. (Orland is more complicated because it has properties abutting both Toddy Pond and Alamoosook Lake.)

You can access the cost estimators here:
