Our Mission

To develop, receive, administer and manage, under community control, funds received from public and private sources and distribute them for charitable purposes, primarily to meet local needs. A group of forward thinking civic leaders, led by Judge Alfred L. of Norristown, who at the time was President Judge of the Orphans' Court of Montgomery County, M. Paul Smith of the law firm of S

mith, Aker, Grossman & Hollinger, LLP, Eric Sander of the Central Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce, Robert McCracken, Publisher of the Times Herald along with representatives from numerous community organizations, created the original foundation to provide additional income to the non-profit sector. The Foundation was originally structured as a Community Trust and for the first twenty-five years, volunteers provided oversight and management. In 1985, following the receipt of a major bequest, the Foundation's first paid Administrator, John C. Webber, was hired and the name of the Foundation was changed to the Montgomery County Foundation. In 1999, during a strategic planning process, a fund development vision was formed for the Foundation and one of the first steps in response to this was the incorporation of the Foundation. As a result, the Montgomery County Foundation is structured both as a Community Trust and a Corporation. This gives greater flexibility to our work with donors in pursuit of their philanthropic vision.

A grant from the Montgomery County Foundation, Inc., helped support Montco SAAC create opportunities for older adults to gather, participate and find friendship rather than spending their days alone.

This Thursday, September 3, at 7:00pm, Bharatiya Temple & Bharatiya Cultural Center will hold a Prayer Service and Fundraiser to support the families affected by the devastating Nepal Flash Flood Disaster. Every grant tells a story—and these photos tell a beautiful one.

Just one month after receiving a grant from the Ted Oerkvitz Designated Fund, held at the Montgomery County Foundation, KenCrest is already seeing the impact in its Early Intervention Program.

This year, KenCrest expanded its efforts beyond encouraging parent-child reading by working with therapists to identify toys and learning tools that strengthen children's cognitive, communication, and emotional regulation skills. Today, the program serves nearly 1,500 children across five Pennsylvania counties, including about 600 families in Montgomery County. Through this grant, approximately 15 Montgomery County children have received specialized toys and tools that support their growth and development.

We're grateful to KenCrest for sharing these photos and stories with us. They are a wonderful reminder that donor generosity creates lasting opportunities for children and families throughout our community.

Meet Morgan Martin, the 2026 Carson Scholarship recipient! Did you know that only one student is selected annually for this scholarship?

This Fall, Morgan will attend Penn State University to study Environmental Systems Engineering with a minor in Black Studies. Through dual enrollment, Morgan earned an Associates of Science in Environmental Studies before graduating high school.
