Come hang out with the High Country Chapter of Trout Unlimited this Thursday from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at South End Brewing in downtown Boone for our monthly meeting/social. Bring your fly-tying gear if you’d like to spin up a few flies, or just stop by for a beer, some fishing talk, and good company. Everyone is welcome—whether you’re a longtime TU member, new to fly fishing, or just curious about what we’re all about. We’d love to see you there.

We’re also asking members to take a few minutes to complete our chapter survey. Your feedback will help us better understand what programs, events, and conservation efforts are most important to our members and guide the chapter’s future activities. Whether you’re a regular at chapter events or haven’t been able to join us recently, we’d appreciate hearing from you. You can find the survey link in our Bio

It looks like it’s going to be a great event—we hope you’re able to check it out. If you do attend, be sure to stop by and say hi

Skye Kreis-Potgeiter of High Country Guide Service will be joining us Thursday March 5 at BRC’s Aho Campus for our monthly meeting. He will be presenting his proven streamer fishing techniques for catching larger predatory fish in the Appalachians. Skye grew up in Boone, NC and has been fishing the local rivers and streams since 2013 and guiding for High Country Guide Service since 2017. For this months meeting we’re bringing in special guest Jordan Linger. Jordan currently serves as the Vice Chairman for the North Carolina Chapter of Back Country Hunters & Anglers.

NCBHA has been advocating on behalf of our Public Land & Waters since 2018. They are an extremely active chapter with a notable amount of advocacy targeting issues here in our own back yard.

TU and BHA are rooted in common values. Both are passionate about caring for and recovering the places they fish, hunt, live, and love. Native and wild trout fisheries and backcountry lands and waters matter to all members of both organizations.

Join us in learning more about BHA’s work here in NC and how our two organizations can move the needle for progress at a state level as well as our own back yard.

Check out the link in the bio for additional details.

Spring is coming fast and the HCTU chapter is happy to announce our April meeting is coming up fast as well! We hope to see many of you at South End Brewing this Thursday starting at 6pm.

Bring your tying materials and vises and plan on working on tying some tried and true spring patterns that have been producing well so far. We’ll also be discussing local fishing destinations that have been producing well and how the reduced stocking levels have impacted fishing so far in the Delayed Harvest sections. So come with your best fishing stories and share with others from the High Country!

Food and beverages are available for purchase of course. Hope to see you there! Cheers 🍻

Join us for our next meeting on March the 6th! We will be meeting in the upstairs section of Lost Province’s downtown location.

TU is pleased to welcome Hannah Woodburn! She will be providing some updates about the amazing work being done out of the Boone MountainTrue/Watauga River keepers office. Hannah serves as both a scientist and community organizer at MountainTrue. In this role, she is responsible for managing all of the active water quality programs, volunteer coordination, and educational outreach in the High Country.

We had a blast tying flies last month! There was so much positive feedback we want to let everyone know that if we are meeting, whether it’s a this upcoming meeting or any other, and you would like to bring your fly tying magic, feel free to do so! Even when our events are not a “formal” tying event, like last month, we still encourage you to bring your gear and tie at any of our functions. We think this would be a positive attribute to our meetings and hope that many of you are willing to set the stage for those on the fence about participating

There is a ton of stuff going on in the coming months. Consider becoming a member and following us on social media to keep up with upcoming events!
We hope you can join us for the March meeting… You won’t be disappointed!
