Children's Advocacy Center of the Blue Ridge is a nonprofit that conducts forensic interviews and medical exams on children of physical and s*xual abuse. We work closely with Law enforcement, DSS and the DA's office. We are holding our First Annual BBQ Fundraiser on Friday Sept. 20 from 11a-7pm at Perkinsville Baptist Church. Tickets are $8 and will get you delicious bbq, slaw, beans, hushpuppies, dessert and drink! Tickets are on sale NOW!! If we can get larger orders 12+ sold we will deliver the plates to a designated location during the hours of 11a-2p. We will also have the Peacemakers Quartet(comprised of some wonderful law enforcement from Avery Co) performing during the evening hours. Director, Selena Moretz was chosen as a recipient of the 2013 Internet Crimes Against Children Attorney General's Special Commendation along with FBI Special Agent John Wydra, SBI Special Agent Casey Drake, Detective Scott Carico Burke Sheriff Office & ADA Eric Bellas. What a wonderful honor. It was wonderful seeing the collaborative effort of all the agencies involved!

MORGANTON – A Hickory man found guilty of attempted first degree s*x offense and indecent liberties with a child required medical attention Wednesday after witnesses in court say the defendant consumed eight muscle relaxant capsules in court before jurors arrived with the verdict.
