BLOWING ROCK CARES FOOD PANTRY
is open to clients on Mondays from 9am-12pm. Items most needed right now: canned fruit, canned vegetables, canned pasta (like spaghetti-os), rice, canned tomatoes .The shopping cart, normally in the office reception area, is outside the pantry/nursery entrance to the church every day of the week from 9-5. Please drop off your food donations during this time and they will be retrieved each day. Monetary donations can be made out to Blowing Rock Cares Food Pantry or to Rumple and mailed to the church.
As we have in the past, BR Cares will be providing Christmas dinners for the pantry families as well as families from Blowing Rock School. We are estimating we will be serving around 56 families each holiday. We will be offering families the choice of turkey or ham, instant potato packages, canned yams, stuffing mix, canned corn, canned green beans plus a pie. Stick Boy Bakery will be donating dinner rolls. If you would like to be a part of this wonderful addition to our regular food boxes, please consider donating some of the canned goods or making a monetary donation. Also we are always in need of personal products like toothpaste, soap bars, shampoo, toilet paper, hand lotion, etc.

Blowing Rock Cares Food Pantry is staffed entirely by volunteers who are always giving of their time and talent to keep the pantry running smoothly. We would like to recognize one of those special volunteers who has worked with BRCares for many years and has become one of our silent hero.

Dennis Norris is an amazing person who gives almost daily of his time and energy purchasing food and supplies for Blowing Rock Cares Food Pantry. He hits the stores early to locate and purchase needed food items as well as works to establish great relationships with local businesses so that we are always supplied with needed food and personal items. During these current food crisis Dennis is on the road constantly searching for and purchasing items to keep the pantry open. Dennis is also a BRCares board member and has been for many years. His insight and experiences keeps the board focused on the tasks at hand. He is truly a valued member of the board and a very
special volunteer.

Tim Harris - Vice President of BRCares on his experiences working with Dennis:
"His local network for that is amazing, and he is constantly looking for, ordering, picking up and restocking food, checking what’s on sale. He only accepts help for pickup and restock, and calls/texts some number of folks to help with that. The rest he prefers to do on his own - both for safety reasons and because he can ‘forage’ for a little here and a little there more efficiently alone than accompanied. His knowledge of the inventory at any point in time and his organization are impressive, and he typically retains his sense of humor and perspective even when not doing so could easily be overlooked."

BLOWING ROCK CARES FOOD PANTRY

Items needed are Canned diced tomatoes, macaroni and cheese, pasta sauce, Peanut butter & canned fruit. The shopping cart, normally in the office reception area, will be outside the pantry/nursery entrance to the church every day from 9-5. Please drop off your food donations during this time and they will be retrieved each day. Monetary donations can be made out to Rumple (with BR Cares on the memo line) or to BR Cares and mailed to the church.

Blowing Rock Cares continues to operate with expanded operations that are providing food boxes to many of the Watauga County Schools and also to some other area churches. The pantry is now open additional hours on Fridays from 4-6, in addition to normal Monday 9-12 hours. This week alone we have packed/given out over 120 boxes of food! The ministry needs your donations of these food items: peanut butter, canned pasta (like SpaghettiOs), canned fruit, canned tomatoes, and canned pasta sauce. The shopping cart is outside the food pantry every day from 9-5. If you have items or a contribution to donate but don’t want to get out of your house, volunteers will come and pick up from you. This happen. Monetary donations made out to Rumple or to Blowing Rock Cares can be mailed to the church. At the rate we are currently distributing food, this will cost nearly $4000 a week so all donations will help tremendously!

About Blowing Rock CARES:

History

Blowing Rock CARES was started in November 2009 by Grandparent Linda Laughter, Parent Liz Tincher and Blowing Rock School Secretary Trish Kohlasch after playground discussions in October. In the first 7 months an average of 20 children and adults were helped each month.

As of 2013, Blowing Rock CARES has evolved to a resource run by the Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church.
