WRESTLING LEGEND BARRY DAVIS JOINS HUSKY ELITE WRESTLING CLUB as Consulting Coach to Help “Restore the Glory” at Bloomsburg University
BLOOMSBURG, PA – The Husky Elite Wrestling Club is proud to announce the addition of wrestling icon Barry Davis to its leadership team as a Consulting Coach. This high-profile appointment is a cornerstone of the club’s "Restore the Glory" campaign, a dedicated initiative aimed at returning the Bloomsburg University wrestling program to its status as a national powerhouse.
Barry Davis brings one of the most storied resumes in American wrestling history to Bloomsburg. A three-time NCAA Champion and four-time All-American at the University of Iowa under Dan Gable, Davis also earned a silver medal at the 1984 Olympic Games. Following his competitive career, Davis spent over two decades as the Head Coach at the University of Wisconsin, where he became the winningest coach in program history.
In his role as Consulting Coach, Davis will provide technical expertise, recruiting mentorship, and strategic guidance to the Husky Elite Club, working in synergy with the Bloomsburg University coaching staff to elevate the regional wrestling landscape. “I’ve always admired the grit and tradition of Bloomsburg wrestling. There is a unique blue-collar toughness here that reminds me of the great rooms I’ve been a part of,” said Barry Davis. “When I saw the passion behind the ‘Restore the Glory’ campaign, I knew I wanted to be involved. My goal is to help these young men realize that with the right mindset and technical foundation, they can compete with anyone in the country. We aren't just looking to improve; we are looking to dominate.”
The Husky Elite Wrestling Club, an organization dedicated to supporting the Bloomsburg wrestling community through RTC-style training and alumni engagement, sees Davis as the perfect catalyst for their mission.
“Bringing in someone of Barry’s caliber is a statement of intent,” said Dennis Siegmann, President of the Husky Elite Board of Directors and a proud Bloomsburg wrestling alumnus. “As alumni, we remember when Bloomsburg was a feared name on every dual meet schedule. Under the ‘Restore the Glory’ banner, we are committed to providing the resources and the legends necessary to bring those days back. Barry Davis doesn’t just bring medals; he brings a championship culture that will permeate through our club and the entire Bloomsburg community.”
The move has been met with high praise from the university’s coaching staff, who view the partnership as a vital bridge between the program’s historic past and its ambitious future. “Having Barry Davis in our corner is a game-changer,” said John Stutzman, Bloomsburg University Head Wrestling Coach. “His wealth of knowledge and his perspective on what it takes to win at the highest levels of the Big Ten and the NCAA are invaluable. Working alongside Husky Elite and a mentor like Barry allows us to offer our student-athletes a world-class support system. This is a massive step forward for the Husky program.”
