Hoosier Chess Academy

Chess offers the greatest value when accessible to everyone in the community.

We aim to strengthen Southern Indiana communities by introducing chess programs—clubs, classes, camps, and tournaments—to everyone. A nonprofit organization committed to providing chess opportunities to PK-12 children and adults in Southern Indiana.

♟️ We’re woefully behind on spotlighting our top kids on the HCA Leaderboard…so let’s finally fix that! 😄

Since launching the HCA Leaderboard last October, Hoosier Chess Academy has served 263 different students across tournaments, PIT Meets, Circuits, clubs, camps, and other events. These players have risen to the very top through consistent participation, effort, and dedication to chess improvement!

📣 Heads up, chess community! Our 2026–2027 Hoosier Chess Academy program overview is now available! ♟️

We’re excited for another year of tournaments, PIT Meets, Circuits, camps, school programs, and more opportunities for students to learn, compete, and grow through chess.

Our next event is our PIT Meet on Sunday, June 7 — we hope to see your child in the center of our board! ♟️

♟️ THANK YOU for an amazing 14th Annual Bloomington Scholastic Championships! ♟️

Yesterday, 63 students from across the region joined us at University Elementary School for a fantastic day of chess competition, sportsmanship, learning, and community!

Players enjoyed the HCA signature:
🍕 Free pizza
🧠 Complimentary game analysis and coaching
🏆 Trophy and gift card prizes
♟️ Four rounds of exciting rated chess
🎉 An energetic, packed tournament atmosphere from start to finish

We are incredibly proud of all of the students who challenged themselves, demonstrated resilience, and represented their schools and families so well throughout the day. This was the largest tournament in our history and the largest in Bloomington since 2018.
