Great to see the next generation of Dance Marathon is already making a difference!!!
Today’s Riley Children's Health Kid Captain is 10-year-old Summer Corry from Bloomington, Indiana.
Long before she was diagnosed with Localized Scleroderma at age 8, Summer was already a constant presence at the Bloomington South Riley Dance Marathon. Watching high schoolers (including her brother Abe) raise money for pediatric health inspired her to give everything she could—literally emptying her piggy bank at age 7 & donating her tooth fairy money at age 8 to help kids in need.
When her own diagnosis meant facing IV infusions at the hospital, weekly injections, & close care from Riley Rheumatology, Dermatology, & Ophthalmology, Summer didn't let it slow her down. Instead, it fueled her passion to give back even more. For her 9th birthday, she traded traditional presents for Riley donations, raising $486 for other children facing health challenges, because according to Summer: "There are so many kids at Riley that need our help!"
When she isn't making a difference, Summer is living life at full speed. She loves performing on stage with her competitive dance studio, playing in tennis tournaments, & running 5Ks. However, her favorite part of every week is her piano lesson with singer-songwriter Audrey Rose (who has an inspirational Riley story herself & is one of Summer's biggest role models).
When she grows up, Summer wants to be a professional tennis player, an environmentalist, or a dog trainer.
