A Message from Our Founder and an Important Update on the Future of PALS

Thirteen years ago, I gave birth to my daughter, Nora, who was born still and silent into this world on a cold December day in 2012. Months later, as I navigated the overwhelming grief of her loss while carrying the hope and fear of a subsequent pregnancy, I realized how few resources there were for those going through the emotional journey pregnancy after loss.

Pregnancy after loss is the hardest thing I've ever done after losing my child. So, after my second daughter Zoe was born, I wanted to create a space for those navigating the unique experience of grieving one child while expecting another, and that is how Pregnancy After Loss Support (PALS) was born. Because of Nora, we built this community. Because of all of you, we built a movement of courageous parents who choose hope over fear throughout their subsequent pregnancy.

📣 As Nora reaches this milestone birthday, I am sharing some bittersweet news: Pregnancy After Loss Support will be closing its independent operations at the end of 2025.

Carrying the Mission Forward: Return to Zero: Hope

While the PALS organization is closing this chapter, our mission is not ending. We are incredibly honored to announce that our friends at Return to Zero: Hope (RTZ) will be continuing PALS’ legacy.

By integrating PALS’ core resources into their existing programs, RTZ will expand their pregnancy after loss offerings, ensuring that the support, education, and community you rely on will remain available to those who need it most.

Important Updates on Resources

We want to be transparent about what this transition looks like for our digital tools and community spaces:

💕 The Pregnancy After Loss App: Unfortunately, the Pregnancy After Loss App will no longer be available after the end of 2025. We know how vital the week-by-week guidance is for your peace of mind. RTZ is currently exploring new ways to share this specific support through another medium so that parents continue to receive that guidance through each milestone.

💕 The PALS Website: Our website will remain live in its current form for the time being. This allows RTZ the time they need to thoughtfully incorporate our library of articles and resources into their own website.

💕 Social Media: Our social media accounts will no longer post new content after the end of the year. However, they will remain online as an archive so you can still access past posts, stories, and words of encouragement.

💕 Facebook Support Groups: Our private Facebook groups will be archived. While new posts will not be accepted, the groups will remain searchable so members can look back at the community and conversations shared there.

A Bittersweet Farewell

This is a profoundly bittersweet time for our team and for me personally, as grief and joy intertwined often are. Closing this chapter feels like watching a child grow up and move on. And yet, I am so proud of the community we built, the awareness we spread, and the support that is more widely available because of the work started at PALS.

To our community: Thank you. Thank you for trusting us. Thank you for sharing your stories, your babies, your fears, and your joy. It has been an incredible honor to walk beside you during some of the most vulnerable and sacred moments of your lives. You have taught me more about resilience and love than I ever thought possible. I know the spirit of Nora and all our babies will live on in the support you continue to give one another.
With love and hope,

Lindsey M. Henke

Dear baby, your light continues to shine brightly in our hearts, even though you're no longer here. Who are you remembering today on Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day? We want to remember them with you as we light our candles tonight during the Wave of Light. 🕯️🕯️🕯️

When our daughter was born, it was incredibly important to us that we figure out ways to include Patrick, our son who died, in our family’s traditions. As Halloween approached that year, kicking off three months of holiday celebrations, I yearned for ways to include him. So, during our first trip to the pumpkin patch with our 9-month-old daughter, we chose a white pumpkin for Patrick. That trip to the pumpkin patch also fell on October 15th, Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day, which made it even more important to acknowledge him and the hole in our family. We decided a white pumpkin was the perfect way to remember and include our son.

Each year, we’ve chosen a white pumpkin at the pumpkin patch. And for the last five years, when we went to the pumpkin patch, our daughter has insisted on picking Patrick’s pumpkin first.

It fills my heart with so much joy and love and pride for both of my children. It’s become such a special tradition for our family. And, it’s been inspiring to see this tradition grow throughout the loss community as we all cling to ways to include our babies who died in our families, our traditions, and our lives.

This year, my husband, Lloyd, and I created a 1 in 4 white pumpkin design to acknowledge the missing pumpkins in our families, and we’re excited to share that with you. It is available as both a t-shirt and a sweatshirt (swipe to see). These are sure to become a fall favorite of yours as they spread awareness and acknowledge our precious children gone too soon.

October is Pregnancy, Infant, and Child Loss Awareness Month, and we will forever have footprints on our hearts.

This October, we at PALS are honoring Pregnancy, Infant, and Child Loss Awareness Month by remembering all of the precious babies who brought us to PALS. We wouldn't be here in this community without them. They are the thread that ties us all together. We love them and miss them, and this month, we want the world to know that because of these children, we are forever changed.

We're sending all of our families lots of love. We know it can be an incredibly emotional month. We love telling the world about our babies, but it can also be hard and sad. Be gentle with yourselves this month.
