πŸŽ‰ BDSA is proud to celebrate the remarkable achievement of our community member, Shobnom Mustaree, who has been selected as a 2026 Stier Fellow at Indiana University Bloomington.

Shobnom is a PhD candidate whose research focuses on bacterial biofilm regulation and pathogenesis, particularly studying the human and animal pathogen Vibrio vulnificus. Her work explores molecular mechanisms related to motility, biofilm formation, and intracellular signaling that contribute to a deeper understanding of infectious diseases and microbial behavior.

πŸŽ‰ BDSA is proud to celebrate the achievement of our own Executive Committee member, S M Nahian, who has been selected as an Environmental Justice Fellow for the 2026–2027 academic year at Indiana University Bloomington.
Nahian currently serves as the General Secretary of the Bangladesh Student Association (BDSA) and is pursuing a dual degree in Master of Public Affairs and Master of Science in Environmental Science at the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs.
His passion for environmental justice, climate change, sustainability, and addressing inequalities through research and policy reflects the kind of leadership and commitment that continues to inspire our community. This fellowship recognizes his dedication to creating meaningful impact through research, leadership engagement, and policy-driven solutions.

Masrur, a PhD student in Intelligent Systems Engineering at the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering, continues to represent the Bangladeshi student community through his dedication to innovation, research, and leadership. His research interests include Deep Learning, Robotics & Autonomous Systems, and Human-Level AI & Reasoning.

Introducing Shegufta Rodoshi Rahman, Communication Officer of the Bangladesh Student Association at Indiana University Bloomington for 2026–2027.

Shegufta is currently pursuing her Master of Science in Environmental Science at Indiana University Bloomington through the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs. Her academic interests focus on climate change, sustainability, energy and environmental policy, GIS/Remote Sensing, and environmental data analysis.

Passionate about environmental research and sustainable development, she hopes to contribute toward meaningful conversations and initiatives surrounding climate resilience and environmental responsibility, while bringing creative ideas and fresh perspectives to the BDSA community.

Farhan is currently pursuing his PhD in Economics at Indiana University Bloomington under the College of Arts and Sciences. Before joining IU, he served as an Assistant Director at Bangladesh Bank and brings valuable professional experience in economics, finance, and public policy.

Introducing Neil M. Nahian, General Secretary of the Bangladesh Student Association at Indiana University Bloomington for 2026–2027.

Neil is currently pursuing a dual degree in Master of Public Affairs and Master of Science in Environmental Science at the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs, Indiana University Bloomington. His academic and professional interests focus on climate change, environmental policy, civic engagement, and sustainable development.

Before joining IU, Neil held leadership and research roles in Bangladesh, including serving as President of the Dhaka University Model United Nations Association (DUMUNA), where he led large-scale youth leadership and diplomacy initiatives. He is also currently working as a Graduate Research Assistant at the Observing Civic Engagement Lab at Indiana University.

With his passion for leadership, community building, and policy-driven impact, Neil brings valuable experience and vision to the BDSA Executive Committee.

Dr. Sajal Islam is currently serving as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for Reliable & Trusted Electronics at Indiana University. His research focuses on radiation effects, semiconductor device reliability, and advanced electronics for extreme environments and space applications.

With his extensive research experience and academic expertise, Dr. Islam brings valuable mentorship and insight to the BDSA community. His guidance and support will play an important role in fostering academic growth, professional development, and innovation among students.
