Neighborhood Gardeners,
Good news!!!! This year we have some open garden plots in the neighborhood public gardens on Davis Street by the culvert.

The raised beds are about 6’ x 10’—a perfect size—not too big and not too little. The garden beds were filled with top quality organic soil. A rain barrel will soon be available to allow us to access water from a nearby fire hydrant.

If you are interested in reserving a raised bed for the summer, email Patrick Siney at: [email protected]. It’s a beautiful day and a great time to start planning for a bountiful garden!

The Monroe County Energy Challenge task for March is to find and seal air leaks in your home.

46% of the energy used in an average home goes to heating and cooling. But much of that is wasted. Seemingly small gaps can add up to the equivalent of leaving a window open year 'round! The cold weather we've been experiencing lately gives us a great opportunity to find leaky places!

Do you need help weatherizing your home?
Monroe County Energy Challenge volunteers will take thermal images to help homeowners locate leaks. And this spring the “Energy Mobile”, sponsored by Vectren, will be stocked with materials to help with weatherization tasks. Taking the Energy Mobile to neighborhoods, trained volunteers will lead a work day to help participating neighbors seal their homes’ gaps.

Monroe County is competing for $5 million and CHANGE! Join us! To win, we need to save more energy in houses, schools, and government buildings than just 49 other communities across the country. There are so many ways to join this huge community effort, from making your own home more energy efficie…

The Monroe County Energy Challenge is our community's entry for a $5,000,000 Georgetown University Energy Prize. Buildings account for over 47% of U.S. energy consumption, and homes account for about 1/3 of that. So we can make a difference!

Join the task-of-the-month program! The program encourages us to take one step at a time, both by improving our homes and changing our habits.

February's task: Install and use a programmable thermostat.

The Monroe County Energy Challenge is a joint effort of the City of Bloomington, the Town of Ellettsville, the Town of Stinesville, Monroe County Government, the Monroe County and Richland-Bean Blossom Community School Corporations, the Indiana University Office of Sustainability, and others.
