This Week's Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame Inductee Spotlight is brought to you by Curry Auto Center. The Class of 2026 will be inducted on Friday July 24th at the Monroe Convention Center in Downtown Bloomington, as we continue our 12 Part Spotlight Series leading up to the Banquet in Late-July.

Criss Beyers is a 1975 Graduate of Bloomington High School North and will be inducted into the Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame as a Coach. Beyers 38-year coaching career in Basketball includes 26 years as assistant under 2012 Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame Inductee J.R. Holmes at South, helping the Panthers win 14 sectionals, 11 regionals, 5 Final Four appearances and 2 state titles, including South’s 2009 undefeated 4A state champs.

Beyers took head coaching position at Martinsville in 2012-13 and guided Artesians to sectional title and went on to even greater heights as head coach at Warren Central, winning 2018 4A state title with a 32-0 record, most wins by an undefeated champion in state history and a No. 2 ranking nationally. Warren Central extended win streak to 46 games in 2019, 3rd longest streak in state history.

Beyers coached girls’ basketball and golf at Bloomington South leading the Girls basketball team to the sectional title in 1996. Beyers coaching start came as graduate assistant coach under Bob Knight at IU from1980-82, earning an NCAA title ring with ’81 Hoosiers. He coached Indiana All-Stars to a sweep of Kentucky in 2019 and In 2018 was named USA Today Coach of the Year, NFHS Indiana Coach of the Year, Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Coach of the Year, Marion County Coach of the Year and MIC Conference Coach of the Year.

The Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame Wishes 2026 Bob Hammel Memorial Scholarship Award Winners Ellie Barada of Bloomington South and Caleb Winders of Bloomington North the Best of Luck as they compete in the United States Track and Field Under 20 Championships at Historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

Barada and Winders will both compete in the 800 Meters Prelims this afternoon with Barada at 4:13 PM Bloomington Time and Winders right after at 4:21 PM Bloomington Time which is 1:13 PM and 1:21 Local Time in Eugene. The Finals for the 800 Meters will be Friday at 7:50 PM Bloomington Time for the Barada and 7:55 PM Bloomington Time for Winders should they both advance from the Prelims.

On This Day In 2025 Bloomington South finished 18th with a team score of 664 at the IHSAA Boys Golf State Finals the Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel.

In 2024 2022 Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame Scholar Athlete Award Winner Kristina Paegle finished 12th in the Women's 100 Meter Semifinal with a time of 54.35 at the United States Olympic Swimming Trials at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Peagle finished 13th with a time of 54:65 in the heats earlier in the day. Peagle graduated from Bloomington South and finished her Sophomore Season at Indiana University.

In 2019 Edgewood Baseball made its first appearance in the state finals falling to Andrean 2-1 in the Class 3A State Championship Game at Victory Field in Indianapolis. The Mustangs Finished 24-4 under Head Coach and 2022 Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame Inductee Bob Jones.

In 2014 Bloomington South finished 8th with a team score of 627 the IHSAA Boys Golf State Finals at the Legends Golf Club in Franklin.

In 1998 Bloomington South was 14th with a team score of 330 after day 1 of the IHSAA Boys Golf State Finals at the Prestwick Country Club in Avon. The Panthers missed the cut and did not advance to day 2.

In 1992 Bloomington North was 19th after Day 1 of the IHSAA Boys Golf State Finals at the Golf Club of Prestwick in Plainfield. The Cougars missed the cut and did not advance to day 2.

The Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame Congratulates the Bloomington South Panthers Boys Golf Team on their 11th Place Finish at the IHSAA Boys Golf State Finals at the Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel. The Panthers tied with Franklin with a Team Score of 632. Senior Colton Watson tied for 9th place with Center Grove's Nathan Springer in the Individual Standings with a 146.

The Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame Wishes Bloomington South Junior Tatum DeVries the Best of Luck as she competes in the IBCA/IHSAA Top 100 Underclass Showcase at Ben Davis High School. The Event is open to the public cost $5 for spectators as 132 girls' basketball players from around the state will be participating starting at 11:30 AM this morning and will conclude at 5 PM.

In 2015 Bloomington South finished 8th with a team score of 626 at the IHSAA Boys Golf State Finals at the Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel.

In 1999 Bloomington South finished 3rd with a team score 630 at the IHSAA Boys Golf State Finals at the Prestwick Country Club in Avon.

In 1974 Bloomington North finished 11th with a team score of 680 and Bloomington South Finished 12th with a team score of 681 at the IHSAA Boys Golf State Finals at the Old Oakland Golf Club in Oaklandon Indiana.

The Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame Wishes the Bloomington South Panthers Boys Golf Team the Best of Luck in Today's State Finals at the Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel. The Final Round is underway after being moved up to 7:30 AM Due to Impending Weather. The Panthers are in 11th Place with a team score of 318 which is 30 over par. Colton Watson is in Fourth Place on the Indviudal Leaderboard with a first round score of 71 which is under par and 3 strokes back of the leaders who are in a three way tie for first place.

On This Day In 2025 2021 Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame Scholar Athlete Award Winner and Edgewood Graduate Taylor Minnick was named to D1Softball’s D100 postseason players list ranked No. 20 in the publication’s final player rankings for the 2025 season after a tremendous Senior Season for the Indiana Hoosiers.

In 2021 Bloomington South finished 4th with a team score of 620 at the IHSAA Boys Golf State Finals at the Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel.

In 1975 Bloomington South finished 12th with a team score of 693 at the IHSAA Boys Golf State Finals at the Old Oakland Golf Course in Oaklandon Indiana.
