This Week's Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame Inductee Spotlight is brought to you by Curry Auto Center. The Class of 2026 will be inducted on Friday July 24th at the Monroe Convention Center in Downtown Bloomington, as we continue our 12 Part Spotlight Series leading up to the Banquet in Late-July.
Criss Beyers is a 1975 Graduate of Bloomington High School North and will be inducted into the Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame as a Coach. Beyers 38-year coaching career in Basketball includes 26 years as assistant under 2012 Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame Inductee J.R. Holmes at South, helping the Panthers win 14 sectionals, 11 regionals, 5 Final Four appearances and 2 state titles, including South’s 2009 undefeated 4A state champs.
Beyers took head coaching position at Martinsville in 2012-13 and guided Artesians to sectional title and went on to even greater heights as head coach at Warren Central, winning 2018 4A state title with a 32-0 record, most wins by an undefeated champion in state history and a No. 2 ranking nationally. Warren Central extended win streak to 46 games in 2019, 3rd longest streak in state history.
Beyers coached girls’ basketball and golf at Bloomington South leading the Girls basketball team to the sectional title in 1996. Beyers coaching start came as graduate assistant coach under Bob Knight at IU from1980-82, earning an NCAA title ring with ’81 Hoosiers. He coached Indiana All-Stars to a sweep of Kentucky in 2019 and In 2018 was named USA Today Coach of the Year, NFHS Indiana Coach of the Year, Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Coach of the Year, Marion County Coach of the Year and MIC Conference Coach of the Year.
