DeCycles Across America 2012 (Official)

DeCycles Across America 2012 (Official) The deCycles is a nonprofit ecumenical youth leadership program offering high spirited summer bicycle trips for teenagers and young adults.

The history of the deCycles dates back to 1968 with over 1800 riders pedaling five million rider miles. The cyclists ride in groups of six on roads chosen for the best combination of riding surface, safety, facilities, and scenery. Several motorized sag vehicles monitor and support the entire group of riders throughout the day. Rest stops with food, juice, and water are planned every 20-25 miles.

A cargo truck transports all luggage, equipment, and supplies. Overnight accommodations are provided by church or school gyms and are prearranged. The group will often have free time in the evenings to tour the town, see a movie, or talk to townspeople about their adventures. Evenings are also spent singing songs, conversing and writing letters back home. And on the final day of the trip, a homecoming ceremony is scheduled for parents, relatives, friends and interested townspeople. This final celebration of music, tales, and testimony is extremely heartwarming and enjoyable by all. The hardest day of the trip is the last day, when it is over.

deCycles 2013 Invitation (June 20 - July 14)
Mexico to Canada on a bicycle? Impossible? Well.....it's up to you to decide! This can be an amazing achievement for any student in high school or college. You can do it....it's been done before and it is FUN! Mark your calendars for the upcoming deCycles Mexico to Canada 2013 trip. Forward this announcement or feel free to print and distribute the attached poster to family and friends.

The route begins at the Mexican border in El Paso, Texas and will parallel the Continental Divide Trail heading north through New Mexico visiting Albuquerque, Sante Fe, and the famous resort town of Taos. The deCycles will continue north to Colorado visiting Alamosa, Salida, the ski resort town of Breckinridge and revisiting Grand Lake, Rocky Mountain NP, and Estes Park. We will repeat the big highlight of the deCycles trip last year....pedaling Trail Ridge Road, the highest paved road in America at 12,183-ft. After an exciting descent down Big Thompson Canyon, the deCycles will roll into Cheyenne, the capitol city of Wyoming and the Wild Wild West. And then it's on to the Black Hills of South Dakota and visiting historic landmarks including Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse Monument. Finally, our travels will take us into North Dakota along the beautiful grasslands of Roosevelt National Park up close to the Canadian border. There is much much more.

Why was this route chosen? Because it includes 3-states never visited by deCycles (Texas, New Mexico, North Dakota). Also, for veterans of the 2011 and 2012 trips who have pedaled coast to coast, this trip offers a south-north border to border journey which is an incredible criss-cross achievement. And finally, we wanted rookies and veterans to enjoy the entire trip in the Wild Wild West!

Visit the deCycles website for trip details and registration form: www.decyclesindiana.org If you experience problems downloading the registration form, refresh your browser.

Hope you can join us. You'll never be the same after this trip. Register early to reserve your spot at the best price.

Over the weekend, brothers Cayden and Connor Long joined hundreds of other children as they competed in the first annual New England Kids Triathlon in Cambridge, Mass., Examiner.com reports.
