Dear Hope Friends,

Over the past month we've looked at some important issues around the intentionally addictive nature of social media leading to a mental health crisis. We've also considered the power, ethics, and personal and environmental impact of AI. Tomorrow we wrap this up with a call to the church - what is needed by the church that cannot be automated?

And by "the church", we're going to get very particular. I don't mean the church in general, I don't mean church staff, I don't mean the church across town - what are WE called to do and be? I am going to have 3 particular action items for us. If you happen to be out of town this weekend, you're not off the hook! This won't be a one-and-done sermon, this will point us toward our future.

Wars and school shootings and gas prices and AI and all of it might make us want to bury our heads in the sand or hide under the covers. If you need to do that for a second, go for it. But then we have a unique calling in the world, in our community, in each other's lives!

Why do we build? Why do we progress and grow? We think a lot about personal journeys of growth and success, an underdog-hard-worker who rises to be titans of industries. But when private success is weighed what's good for humanity, what wins? What SHOULD win?

We love that more people are talking about Jesus in a way that doesn't just dilute him into a stoic statue of a figure. But while righteous anger can be fun to emphathize with, have we explored scripture like this fully? What more questions can we ask about the role of anger in righteousness? How do we keep it clear and just? When do we lose it...?

"Who is bearing the cost...?"

God loves/loved/will love us - even and especially when we don't get everything right. And grace like that can be healing in times like the ones we find ourselves now. Where can you begin to practice just a bit of that grace with folks nearby?
