Love helping your neighbors? Volunteer to assist those who can’t clear their sidewalks due to age or disability through the City of Bloomington, IN - Council for Community Accessibility Snow Buddies Program! If clear sidewalks are important to you, this is a great way to dig in and make a difference. Lend a hand and clear a path at bton.in/y7JER.

While volunteers are stepping up, a friendly reminder: City ordinance requires businesses and property owners to clear snow and ice from sidewalks bordering their property. It’s not just the rule—it’s about keeping our community safe and accessible for everyone.

It's springtime, so baby animals will be appearing soon! You can help give them their best chance of survival by doing the following:

• Observe wildlife from a distance. It’s important for them to have space.

• Remember that it is normal for babies to be left alone while their mother looks for food. Baby animals will typically remain still and quiet while waiting for mom. This does not necessarily mean the baby is orphaned. Do not feed the animal.

• If you see a baby animal that has fallen out of a nest or den, you can put it back and quickly leave the area. Hovering near the baby can discourage a mother from coming back, and your scent can attract predators.

• Before doing yard work, check the area to make sure you are avoiding any nests or dens.

• Baby animals have the best chance of survival with their mother. Though done with good intentions, stepping in to help can harm wildlife, so be sure to properly investigate if wildlife needs help. District wildlife biologists can help to determine whether baby animals need help. Find their contact info here: bit.ly/WildlifeBiologists

• If you have properly investigated and a baby animal truly needs to be rescued, it MUST be turned over to a permitted wildlife rehabilitator within 24 hours after removing it from the wild. Find a list of our permitted rehabilitators on our website here: bit.ly/PermittedWildlifeRehabIN
