Weekly Invitation:

This week, pay attention.
Look for one place where you see compassion, welcome, justice, mercy, or love breaking through in the world around you.
And when you find it, don't just admire it. Join it.
Make the call. Extend the invitation. Offer encouragement. Choose compassion when fear would be easier.
Could this be where God's glory is passing by?
We may not know everything God is doing, but when the movement is toward greater love, deeper humility, wider welcome, and restored dignity, let's follow.

Sermon - Good News in Old Stories: The God Who Goes With Us

Good morning, Pastor Kyrmen here. I had a wonderful opportunity yesterday to serve at FCC's Welcome Table Breakfast! On a typical Sunday, worship preparations keep me from spending as much time as I would like at the Welcome Table, but a rare morning off from preaching made space for this opportunity. I worked alongside my son Jude at the drink and cereal table. What an awesome morning it was to connect with guests, share some conversation, and keep those pitchers of milk filled! It's hard to describe how much this time of community means to me.

The Welcome Table served 105 people yesterday, mostly people living in extreme poverty, many of them experiencing homelessness. As the weather gets colder, we are likely to see growth in the number of people seeking a meal and some warmth.

The Welcome Table is in a season in which we need additional volunteers for this ministry to thrive. If you haven't served before, I want to encourage you to sign up for a shift and give it a try - I'm pretty sure you will want to come back and do it again! And if you haven't volunteered in a while, know that your labor is needed.

We need volunteers during the 90 minutes we serve food (8:00 to 9:30). We also are in need of volunteers to assist with clean up from 9:15 to 10:00 - that may suit you better if you're not an early riser :)

Join us for FCC’s Fall Harvest Festival On Saturday, October 17 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on the grounds of Grace Church (2320 N Smith Pike). You won’t want to miss the fun as we gather for a bonfire, we**ie roast, games, stories, and more! We’ll provide hot dogs and veggie dogs, chips, drinks, and s’more fixins. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share.

Weekly Invitation:
Once our eyes become open to the golden calves in our world, we really can’t stop seeing them. We are invited to be purposeful in noticing the ways in which God’s name is attached to ideas, policies, and actions that are not loving – and therefore are not the way of Jesus. What will we do? How will we respond? May we tell ourselves the truth. May we name the golden calves we see, resisting the desire to look past that which makes us uncomfortable. May we find our courage as we seek to see, to tell, and to live in truth.
