Happy (almost) Spring! We're starting to see flowers pop up around town, which means it's almost time for another year of community growth, impact, and fun at the Bloomington Community Orchard!

Weekly Work & Learn Days will resume on Saturdays (1-4pm) starting April 4th. We're also looking for groups and interns to help us cultivate the 1-acre organic food forest over the summer, so feel free to spread the word, and let us know if you're interested!

Join us next Tuesday (2/10, 6-7pm at Redbud Books) for a book club on The Serviceberry by Robin Wall Kimmerer — an exploration of reciprocity and ecological connection through the lens of Indigenous wisdom, using the humble serviceberry as a metaphor for a gift-based economy. Concepts near and dear to our hearts at CanopyBloomington and the Bloomington Community Orchard!

Join Canopy Bloomington and the Bloomington Community Orchard for our first book of 2026! We’ll be discussing The Serviceberry by Robin Wall Kimmerer—an exploration of reciprocity and ecological connection through the lens of Indigenous wisdom, using the humble serviceberry as a metaphor for a gift-based economy. With lyrical insight rooted in mutual care, Kimmerer invites us to reimagine how we live, give, and grow in harmony with the natural world.

2025 reminded us just how powerful community can be. From hope-filled planting days to joyful celebrations of community at Cider Fest, the Orchard continues to grow because of YOU - our volunteers, neighbors, donors, partners, and friends who believe food, education, and natural connection should be shared. Thank you for showing up, nurturing the Orchard, and helping it thrive.

If any of your goals for 2026 include getting more involved in your community, supporting food justice and free education, getting outside and exercising more, or just making some eco-friendly friends, we would love to chat with you about how to connect your passions and skills to our sustainably delicious mission.

Today's the day! Join us in the Orchard (1-4pm) for CIDER FEST!

We'll have interactive activities like cider pressing, apple tastings, kids' games (including pumpkin painting and face painting), a harvest haiku station, a bee demo, poetry readings, an orchard tour, and a raffle. We expect a lively crowd of attendees enjoying baked goods, cider, and more. The event is free to the public, and child-friendly costumes are welcome and encouraged!

1:30 - Orchard Tour
2:00 - Bee Demo
3:00 - Haiku & Poetry Reading (+ free raffle)

Quick sneak peek of our new 15th Anniversary shirts that we'll debut at Cider Fest tomorrow/Saturday (10/25, 1-4pm). We'll also have insulated travel mugs and market bags. Our Little Free Orchard Pantry is BACK! Just in time for Cider Fest, this Saturday (10/25, 1-4pm). Now that this season's harvest is nearly complete, feel free to bring some nonperishable food items (to the event, or whenever you visit the Orchard), to help us feed and care for the community. As Robin Wall Kimmerer so eloquently says, "all flourishing is mutual."
