We are celebrating the systems and partnerships that make child care possible in our region!

When a child care classroom stays open, the ripple effect is immediate: parents can go to work, teachers can breathe, and children keep the steady routines they depend on.

Across Monroe County, that stability is increasingly supported by a growing network of trained early learning substitute educators, known throughout the community as ELSEs—who step in when centers face staff shortages, unexpected sick days, or coverage gaps.

While the substitute pool solves immediate staffing needs, it also builds something longer-term: a stronger early childhood workforce, connected providers, and resilient services for families. With trained ELSEs, programs gain calm, continuity, and support. https://youtu.be/M4bw9JjY7zs?si=r6Nn0-1uYx2CpBZn

This Earth Day 🌎, we’re proud to celebrate how local early care and education providers are helping build a healthier future in Monroe County.

High-quality early learning environments do more than prepare children for school- they create safe, nurturing spaces where kids can explore, play, and connect with the world around them.

From outdoor learning and nature-based play to fostering curiosity about our environment, our providers are shaping young stewards of the planet every day!

By supporting strong early childhood programs, we’re investing in both our children and the future of Monroe County.

Together, we can grow a community where children thrive and our environment is cared for now and for generations to come.
