We are very excited to announce that Gabriela Castillo, a student at Bloomington High School South, was awarded 3rd place in the national Sister Cities International Young Artists and Authors Showcase! We are so happy for her and glad that she shared her vision for tomorrow through her beautiful painting, "The Pieces for the Future."
Please come see her oil painting in person at our information table at Bloomington's Fiesta del Otoño, Saturday, Sept. 19, from 12-4pm, at Switchyard Park. Come meet other sister city committee members, and enjoy music, food, and more!

Our local Bloomington-Posoltega Sister Cities art awards ceremony recognized the efforts of our local high school students who participated in not only the local competition, but also the national Young Artists and Authors Showcase.

Their visions for a more peaceful world through art and poetry were inspiring. And, having Mayor Kerry Thomson there to present each student's certificate and award was so exciting, not only for the students, but for the family members in attendance!

Visit our sister cities display case, in southwest corner of the City Hall atrium, not only to see some of the winning creations, but to learn more about our 38-year friendship with the people of Posoltega, Nicaragua!

2026 Young Artists and Authors (YAAS) Awards Ceremony, Saturday, May 2, at 10 am, in the Bloomington City Hall Atrium. The exhibit of local high school students' art and poetry will remain on display throughout the month of May. Please come and see their vision of a world where today's voices shape tomorrow's global community. Presented by the City of Bloomington and the Posoltega Committee of Bloomington Sister Cities.

Today our committee contacted the participating Bloomington high schools to let them know the names of students selected as local art and poetry winners! There were so many wonderful submissions. Thank you to all students and teachers who participated!

Calling all artists! Our local Bloomington sister city committee will be selecting art by youth in Bloomington, Indiana, and Posoltega, Nicaragua, to submit to the Sister Cities International's Young Artists and Authors Showcase (YAAS). The mission of the sister cities program is always that of promoting peace, and the theme of the showcase this year is “Voices of Today, Visions of Tomorrow.” Any interested artist, 12-18 years of age, should contact us at [email protected] Every artist must go through our local sister city group to apply.
