Writers Guild at Bloomington The Writers Guild at Bloomington is an association of writers committed to mutual support and the professional development of their craft.

Its mission is to foster interaction among writers as well as other artists, educators, and Monroe County public. Join us for our July events! Starting TONIGHT with our Spoken Word Series, now on a new day and at a new location!

Wednesday 7/8 | Spoken Word Series
6-8pm at Redbud Books

The 2026 series continues on a new day at a new location! Featured readings by Indiana Beat Poet Laureate Chris Dean and poet Michael Duckwall, with music by Tommy Bays.

Sunday 7/12 | “Unearth Your Story”
2:30-4:30pm at MCPL Meeting Room 1B

Unearth your story this summer through this unique memoir-writing workshop. Local author and speaker Shana Ritter will lead participants through the process of how to start writing memoirs, asking the right questions, and finding a way to grab individual memories and link them together.

Saturday 7/18 | Annual Summer Potluck
1-5pm at Fellowship Hall, University Baptist Church

Bring a dish to share, and something to read for open mic. Wine, beer, and their NA variations are welcome. This will be a great time to meet and greet the Guild’s board and other active members in a relaxed and informal setting.

7-8:30pm at Morganstern Books

The Writers Guild at Bloomington presents the Pop-Up Indiana Chitlin Circuit edition of Last Sunday Poetry, featuring Curtis L. Crisler, Tony Brewer, and Joseph Kerschbaum.

Celebrate Allen Ginsberg’s birthday with a screening of The Life and Times of Allen Ginsberg documenting his life through 1993.

Allen Ginsberg’s Centenary celebration continues with a screening of Chappaqua, the semi-autobiographical drama by Conrad Rooks.

The final film in Allen Ginsberg’s Centenary screenings, Kill Your Darlings, an account of the college days of some of the early members of the Beat Generation.

Spoken Word Series featuring The New Silence: A Poem For The New Climate, voiced by Brian Price and Joan Hawkins with live foley by Tony Brewer. Musical accompaniment from Kyle Quass and Julian Douglas.
