Anger is a big emotion, and that's okay. Emotions are neither good nor bad, they just are. Remember, you may not be able to control your emotions, but you can control what you do with them (ERS 7). Coping skills and managing anger are vital to your sobriety! Handling your emotions healthily builds a strong foundation for long-lasting recovery. Don't lose control in your anger. Recognize your emotions, think, then act.

Reducing stress is not only key to recovery, but also key to a happy life in general! Find balance physically and mentally in your diet, your work, your extra activities, your sleep, and your emotions. Major balance swings are taxing on a person. Manage your time and goals well. Don't stare at the mountain and be afraid! Break it down into smaller, manageable steps to success.

One of the biggest misconceptions about recovery is that it's just about saying "no." This quote captures a truth that isn't talked about enough in recovery. The decision not to use today may be simple in concept, but the work behind that decision is anything but simple. It takes community, accountability, healthy routines, and a willingness to keep showing up even on the hard days.

Recovery isn't a test of willpower. It's a daily commitment supported by people, structure, and purpose. One day at a time may sound clichΓ©, but for many, it's exactly how lasting change is built.

This article really highlights something many people overlook: when alcohol becomes a coping mechanism for stress, the effects may extend far beyond the momentary relief it provides. Researchers found that stress-related drinking in early adulthood may create lasting changes in brain circuitry, affecting decision-making, cognitive flexibility, and even increasing the risk of returning to alcohol during future stressful periods.

It's a powerful reminder that mental health and healthy coping strategies matter, not just for today, but for our long-term brain health. The research also suggests that recovery is about more than willpower because chronic stress and alcohol use can leave lasting biological changes in the brain.

If you've ever wondered why stress, habits, and brain health are so deeply connected, this is a fascinating read.
