Active Aging Coalition

Active Aging Coalition A grassroots organization consisting of seniors, their families, caregivers, and other community advocates interested in improving lives of seniors.

The Active Aging Coalition is a grassroots organization consisting of seniors, their families, caregivers, and other community advocates interested in improving lives of seniors in our community. Through monthly meetings and an interactive website, we learn about each others participation in the senior community, find ways to work together more efficiently, and increase our own understanding of av

ailable resources. Sometimes, when searching for these resources, gaps in services are discovered as well. This has encouraged creativity amongst the group to find better ways to use resources that already exist or at times to create entirely new solutions. One such solution was the creation of the Commission on Aging. They have been responsible for the very successful Creative Aging Festival, a month long city-wide celebration of elder artists addressing the benefits of creativity to healthful aging. Minutes are posted within a week after a meeting. Agendas are sent out a week prior to a meeting. Meetings begin and end promptly in recognition of everyone's busy schedule, but you are welcome to stay longer to visit and network with those you meet. We hope to see you at one of our meetings!

This power outage has been difficult for many in this community, and one of the common questions our teams are hearing relates to people with home oxygen needs.

Here are some tips for those who need oxygen concentrators:

• Contact your electric company and inform them you are oxygen dependent.

• Contact your oxygen vendor (home medical equipment company) to notify them you are without electricity and need portable oxygen tanks delivered to your home and/or a portable concentrator if you do not have one.

• If you have a portable concentrator and transportation, please place your concentrator in your vehicle and drive to your local fast-food restaurant, mall, fire station or coffee shop to charge your device. Some portable concentrators can be charged in your vehicle or by a generator (if a neighbor has a generator, ask if they can charge your concentrator).

• Lincare and Williams Brothers have 24/7 on-call team members, however delivery could take 2+ hours.

• Verify with your oxygen vendor how long your portable tanks and concentrator will run (it is dependent upon your oxygen liter flow), so you know when to make arrangements to charge your portable concentrator and if you need to request additional portable tanks.
