Tau Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Today the influence and concerns of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority extend far beyond campus gates and students interests.

Alpha Kappa Alpha's development has been influenced not only by growth of its membership in size and maturity, but also by conditions in the culture. Consistent throughout the years has been an emphasis on uplifting membership standards of high scholarship, leadership service, and exemplary character. With membership approaching 200,000, the singular determination to be "supreme in service to all

mankind" reverberates throughout the United States, Africa, Asia, Europe and the Caribbean. In 2008, the Sorority celebrated the 100th Anniversary of its founding.

Tau Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Tau Chapter is dedicated to serving all mankind. Just as Alpha Kappa Alpha was the first Black Greek Lettered Sorority in America, Tau chapter prides herself on being the first Black Greek Lettered sorority on the Campus of Indiana University. The Ladies of Tau Chapter exemplify community service, high scholastic achievements, and sisterhood. As we are reintroduced to the campus, we simultaneously work to redefine excellence in our programming, service and social stature of college life.

The lovely ladies of Tau Chapter extend our heartfelt gratitude to friends, family, and community members who joined us for our recent Scholastic Fest! 💖📚Your support made the event a success!

The Scholastic Fest aimed to promote literacy and learning in a fun, accessible environment. We provided free books for students to build their personal libraries, healthy snacks to keep everyone energized, and a range of engaging activities designed to spark curiosity and creativity.

From lively games that encouraged teamwork to reading nooks where we read new stories, the event fostered a warm sense of community while emphasizing the importance of education.

April Community Service 💗💚

The women of Tau Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® proudly dedicated time this month to service through the Volunteer Corps Little Day of Service.

During this initiative, members supported a local park by cleaning garden spaces, cutting weeds, and helping restore outdoor areas used for gardening or leisure activities. Honored to partner with , an organization committed to connecting individuals with meaningful service opportunities that strengthen and uplift local communities.

In addition, in honor of Earth Day, Tau Chapter participated in OFSL’s Greek Clean Up, working together to clean up 17th Street and promote environmental sustainability.

Healing truly begins at home 💗💚

On March 31, 2026, the Tau Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® hosted “Healing Begins at Home: Mental Health and the Black Family,” in collaboration with , the Association of Black Psychologists, creating a space rooted in honesty, support, and community. This event allowed us to engage in meaningful conversations about mental health, break down stigmas, and emphasize the importance of nurturing wellness within our families and our culture.

We are grateful to everyone who attended, participated, and helped foster such an impactful and uplifting environment. Your presence made this experience truly special.

Together, we will continue to uplift, educate, and serve, because when one of us heals, we all do ✨

The Tau Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® proudly attended the 92nd Central Regional Conference this April in Indianapolis, Indiana.

During the conference, our chapter engaged in informative discussions, celebrated the accomplishments of the Central Region and its impact through service to all mankind, deepened our sisterly bonds with members from across the region, and reconnected with Tau alumni who helped lay the foundation for our chapter’s success today.

Our time was marked by moments of excellence as we celebrated awards and recognitions earned by our members, including Leila Sidahmed, Savannah Harrell, and Newell Dodoh. We also honored and sent off our very own Tau alumna, Kiahna W. Davis 💚

The conference was an unforgettable experience, and we are already looking forward to next year’s celebration of service, sisterhood, and soaring together in excellence!
