Monroe County Humane Association At MCHA, we strive to advance animal welfare, deepen human-animal bonds, and extend accessible veterinary care and humane education across our community.

MCHA does not oversee an animal shelter or the care of adoptable animals. MCHA offers various programs and services, including our Nonprofit Veterinary Clinic and Pet Food & Supply Pantry. MCHA is a 501c3 nonprofit organization fully funded by private donations, fundraisers, events, and grants. We do not receive funds from tax dollars or national organizations.

In 2025, MCHA’s volunteer program continued to grow, with volunteers contributing 5,384 hours of service, more than double the total from the year before.

Based on the 2025 value of volunteer time calculated by Independent Sector, those hours represented an estimated $194,578 in contributed value. Their time supported nearly every part of our work, from caring for animals in Crisis Housing and keeping the Pet Food Pantry stocked to helping with events, office projects, and outreach.

Volunteers give MCHA the capacity to do more for animals and families every day. We are grateful to every person who chose to spend part of their year helping us serve our community.

Thank you to all our volunteers for helping us keep pets healthy, in loving homes, and out of shelters.

Our work wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support of our volunteers! From organizing supplies to helping with daily operations, volunteers play an important role in making sure we can provide care and resources to pets in need.

Last month, a team of volunteers from Great West, An Old Republic Company, of Bloomington helped us organize our warehouse, where we store food and essential supplies for our Pet Food & Supply Pantry. Thank you for giving your time to support our mission and help us get these resources to pets and families in our community!

We've gone solar! ☀️ 😎

We are absolutely grateful and excited to share a meaningful investment in MCHA’s future, made possible by an incredibly generous gift from Dr. Stephanie Rosa and Dr. David Montgomery.

This transformative gift is helping us make important improvements to our facility, strengthening the space where we provide veterinary care, crisis housing, and other essential services and programs for pets and the people who love them.

This kind of generosity does more than improve our building. It helps create a stronger, more sustainable foundation for MCHA, allowing us to continue focusing our resources on the animals and families who need us most. By reducing what we spend on electricity and other utilities, we can redirect those funds toward doing more for pets in our community.

Thank you to Drs. Rosa and Montgomery for believing in us and investing in our future. Their generosity is helping MCHA make the most of every dollar we have to care for pets in our community. 🐾

In 2025, the program served about 400 pet visits. The number of individual animals served remained nearly unchanged from 2024, but many required fewer visits because their health had become more stable. The cases requiring continued care were often more complex and needed ongoing monitoring, repeat treatments, and greater coordination.

MCHA’s Street Outreach Program provides free, field-based veterinary care to pets living with people experiencing homelessness or housing instability. The program meets people and their pets where they are, including outdoors, in vehicles, and in temporary or transitional housing.

Street Outreach works closely with Bloomington Police Department, social workers, and community partners including Beacon, Crawford Apartments, Middle Way House, Kinser Flats, Bloomington Housing Authority, Wheeler Mission, and Centerstone. Together, these partners identify pet owners who might otherwise have no access to veterinary care.

On Sunday, October 11, Country View Apartments will host MCHA's walk-in mobile vaccine clinic at 2500 Rockport Rd, Bloomington, IN 47403. Join our Facebook Event Here: October Low Cost Dog & Cat Mobile Vaccine Clinic

MCHA’s veterinary team of volunteers and staff will be available from 1-3 p.m. with no appointment needed.

Our Mobile Vaccine Clinics offer a range of services, including legally mandated rabies vaccines for pets aged 12 weeks and older.

Additionally, we provide nail trims, a**l gland expressions, microchips, and preventive measures for flea, tick, and heartworm.

Mobile Clinics are intended for healthy dogs and cats only and should not replace your annual wellness exam with your primary veterinarian.

You can learn more about these Mobile Clinics, the wellness services available, as well as view the upcoming schedule by visiting our website at monroehumane.org/vaccineclinics.

Subsidized pricing is available for clients who show proof of financial hardship or participation in a government assistance program. All cats must arrive in a cat carrier, and all dogs must be on a leash. Dogs or cats with any signs of illness or that show aggression may not be able to get vaccinations.

MCHA is proud to announce that we were one of the recipients of the Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County's (CFBMC) Tier 1 Rapid Response Grants!

These grants help organizations meet immediate operational needs, build capacity, improve long-term sustainability, and respond to increased demand or emerging opportunities. CFBMC reviewed 114 applications for the grant and awarded it to 19 organizations, including MCHA!

This grant will help fund facility renovations and new kennel equipment to expand and upgrade our Crisis Housing Program, helping us meet the growing demand for temporary pet housing when families face an emergency.

We are also incredibly grateful to Virginia Metzger and 50 Men Who Care, whose additional funding has helped make this important project possible.

Thank you to CFBMC, Virginia Metzger, 50 Men Who Care, and all of MCHA’s generous donors for investing in the well-being of our community’s animals and helping us keep pets and the people who love them together!
