What a wonderful experience last week at our weekly lunch meeting! Our guest speaker was Lonnie Bedwell. Lonnie talked to our members about his life, and his incredible journey after becoming blind in a 1997 hunting accident. Lonnie, a Navy veteran refused to let darkness define him. The Dugger, Indiana native became the first blind person to kayak the Grand Canyon, earning National Geographic Adventurer of the Year honors in 2015. He's since summited all Seven Summits, including Everest, and now chases the North Pole to complete the elite Explorer's Grand Slam. Chelsea Saunders of Blueline Media Productions was also on hand to talk about the upcoming documentary "Beyond Vision" that features Lonnie's quest to complete the Grand Slam.

We had a great lunch meeting this week, with our members sharing friendship and fellowship. We were visited by some members of the Monroe County Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol. We got to hear from 2nd Lt. Brad Thompson, as well as Cadet Beckett Hulse and Adult Member Ashley Hulse, learning about their experiences, and details about the Civil Air Patrol Composite Squadron, where the membership focus is on cadets, cadet sponsors/parents, and active adult members. Weekly meetings are aimed at advancing cadets through the CAP Cadet Program and ensuring Adult Members are adequately trained and prepared to manage the squadron's operations and activities.
