The time has come for Slow Food Bloomington to fish or cut bait. After lots of happy years at the helm, Dave, Benjamin and I are ready to pass this on to someone with more energy than we have. So we propose a potluck at my place on Sunday May 3 at 2 pm to eat delicious food, discuss the future of the organization, and hold elections for a new leadership committee. If you would like to be nominated to serve on the committee or to nominate someone, pass the names on to me and ask the nominee to be prepared to speak for a few minutes on his or her vision for the organization so we can make an informed decision (said the political scientist. )

Only members of the national organization can vote or serve, but everyone who is interested can attend and eat. I only ask that you let me know how many of you there are so we can ensure sufficient beverages and utensils.

My house is at 7326 Wayport Rd. Go north on 37, turn right at the Circle K/Mobil (or Marathon – I can never remember) station two miles out of town, make a hard right into the destruction zone, and we are the only house on the left. You will recognize us by the fact that it looks like a bomb has gone off in our yard. Also, our address is on what’s left of the gate.

RSVP (PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!!) and send me your nominations too!

Christine

Bloomington Winter Farmers’ Market Press Release

What: The Bloomington Winter Farmers' Market is about to begin! This year marks the tenth year of the Winter Market, which gives Bloomington residents a farmers' market year round! The Market will offer fresh fruits & vegetables, breads & cereals, prepared foods, seeds & plants, cut flowers, local meat & poultry, maple syrup, honey products, dairy products, eggs, jams & sauces, baked goods, locally roasted coffee and many other items. The Market also features live music from a variety of our talented local musicians.
When: Saturday mornings from 9:00am to 12noon, December 7th, 2013-March 29th, 2014 with the exception of December 28th.
Where: The Market is located in the Harmony School Gym at 909 East Second Street.
Parking: The Harmony School parking lot is available (please use only designated spaces). Street parking is also legal and free on Saturdays. Just over a block away is the Atwater Parking Garage (entrance is off Woodlawn), which is also free and open on Saturdays.
Why: Shop at the Winter Farmers' Market to strengthen and support Southern Indiana's local food economy. All of our market vendors are local growers and producers that come from Bloomington and other surrounding areas. Come for breakfast and find the ingredients for lunch and dinner. Enjoy live music. Bring the whole family.
The Farmers' Market Welcomes Food Stamp Shoppers! During Saturday Market hours, go to the market information table. Use your food stamp card to purchase as many tokens as you like. Tokens are available in $1 increments, and can be used like cash to buy farm products from market vendors. As long as funding is available, you can double the value of your SNAP (food stamp) purchase, up to $18/week. For every $1 in SNAP (food stamp) benefits you exchange, we will give you $2 in tokens! Draw up to $18 in SNAP (food stamp) benefits, and receive up to $36 in tokens to buy fresh-from-the-farm, healthy, locally grown food at the Farmers' Market. Keep your unused tokens to spend the next time you shop at the market. Market tokens expire at the end of the market season in which they are purchased.

Along with IU, Slow Food Bloomington is co-sponsoring Big Red Eats Green on September 14th in Dunn Meadow from 3-6 p.m. It's all about learning where our food comes from and why it matters. Meet the farmers who grow our food here in southern Indiana and the chefs who prepare it! More than a dozen local restaurants will be selling food made with local ingredients. Selections will be $1, $2, and $3. We will also have a mini-farmers market and many of the farmers who grew those ingredients will be there to sell their wares and answer questions about why and how they do what they do.

Participating restaurants include:

• Bloomingfoods
• BLU Boy Chocolate Café & Cakery
• Dunn Meadow Café
• Feast
• Finch’s Brasserie
• Happy Pig
• Laughing Planet
• Lennie’s
• Nick’s English Hut
• Pizza X
• Restaurant Tallent
• Soma Coffee House
• Upland Brewery

Be sure to pass this on and tell all your friends -- we hope you can join us!!
