Check B4U Drive returns March 2, 2024.

It's going to be held at the Radford Racing School in Chandler AZ.

Parents -- this is the safe driver program for teens with Type 1 diabetes we've been doing since 2010 -- only this site will be special because it's the first time we've come to the greater Phoenix area and it will be at the Radford Racing School!

The Radford instructors will conduct a version of their teen safe driving program — and we will be bringing in our CDE for some safe driving and diabetes discussion. It's always a great day for a T1D teen and will be even more so because it's at the Radford Racing School.

** There is NO cost for this program ** — but space is limited.

We keep these driving/diabetes events small to create an atmosphere of camaraderie.

It's open to T1D teens with a driver's license. (Age 16-19)

The day's agenda will be finalized in the coming weeks, but generally... check in is from 8:30-9:00. For the next hour, there is inside discussion with our CDE and instruction from Radford instructors. There will be lunch with someone from law enforcement providing additional information about driving with diabetes. More safe driving in-car activities in the afternoon with wrap up around 3:00-3:30.

Check this out -- Thrive Glucose.
This is a product developed by Kris Maynard. I just saw a post on LinkedIn that this is the next generation -- and checked out the video. It's got an alert system built in that makes this so much more appealing. Kris is a T1 and an active advocate for helping others with T1D (and this is also good for people with T2D) As I recall, he's a firefighter and EMT too. Happy to pass this along for others to review!

Check B4U Drive -- returning in 2021!

With what we all hope is the soon-to-be-ending pandemic, we're starting to plan for a return of Check B4U Drive! We'll be starting in the Chicago area -- and would like some suggestions for dates and times. Typically we do a Friday or a Saturday. Check in is around 8:30AM with some "inside discussion and preparation" and conversation with a diabetes educator and with our professional driving instructors. Then we head outside for in-car activities, back inside for lunch, back outside for more in-car with driving-and-diabetes related learning taking place throughout. We end around 3PM.

This has always been our signature program and both teen and parent have giving it thumb's up! But with the pandemic, things had to be put on-hold. So, we're ready to get going again!

It's Give to the Max Day in Minnesota (where we are located). It's been a tough year for nonprofits -- we've had to postpone and cancel events. But we're gearing up for 2021 and as we reach the end of the year, the annual Give to the Max Day in Minnesota is one way for people still able to make donations to nonprofits to do so. Hi everyone -- we all know Nov. is National Diabetes Month - aimed a raising T1D Awareness. We're lucky to have something going on in MN called Give to the Max day on Nov. 16 -- a day set aside for nonprofits of all stripes and sizes to ask people for some support. So we generally tie in our only appeal for the year to these two events. We rely solely on donations to fund our Check B4U Drive program for T1D teens.
