If you already volunteer in the Bloomington community, know that you are positively contributing your time and efforts to people and nonprofits that are in need. If you aren't yet engaged in volunteering in your community this week is an amazing time to do some research and make a plan. As communities across the country look to recover successfully from Covid-19, local nonprofits will need more support than ever.

This spring devote yourself to a cause bigger than yourself.

Happy Monday and happy Spring-- the Helping Hands team is excited to start April strong, resilient and connected.

At Civic Champs, our employees and interns pick a different nonprofit every month to donate to collectively. We believe that we can make our local communities stronger by encouraging people to donate, volunteer and do small generous acts. We call it being relentlessly kind.

Visit our blog page at https://hubs.la/H0KwCvp0 to learn more about the amazing work that some of the nonprofits are doing and find ways to support the ones that you are passionate about.

The United Nation has found that cases of domestic violence have increased by 20% during the pandemic. For people living with abusive partners, lockdown is not necessarily. Middle Way House, a Bloomington domestic violence shelter, works to support all survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking; and to educate the community through outreach and prevention programs. Happy Monday and International Women's day! International Women's Day is a global holiday celebrated annually on March 8 to commemorate the cultural, political, and socioeconomic achievements of women.

As we get closer to the end of a devastating global pandemic, it's critical focus on the disproportionate impacts that Covid-19 has had on women in the workforce. Since last February, nearly 2.4 million women have exited the workforce compared to 1.8 million men.

A 2015 McKinsey & Company report found that if women participated in the economy equally with men, global GDP would rise by as much as $28 trillion by 2025.

This is why a gender equity focused recovery effort is critical as we look toward rebuilding our national and global economy. Helping Hands and Civic Champs stand with womxn today and every other day as we look to bolster organizations that seek to achieve equity across all facets of society.

About Us

The Coronavirus outbreak has changed many of our lives within months, from following new social distancing guidelines, to staying confined to our homes. Helping Hands is an initiative launched by the Civic Champs Foundation to help those who are at high risk of COVID-19. Simple tasks such as running errands and going to the grocery store can pose a risk to many individuals’ health. Helping Hands will match volunteers with those who are at high risk to help with their daily needs.

During these unprecedented times, we believe that it is important for the Bloomington community to come together and help make a difference.
