From the report: "Developers and operators have for decades relied on a complicated matrix of layered subsidies, favorable financing, and periodic recapitalization to keep properties stable. But as those funding tools become less reliable in a high-cost environment still shaped by pandemic disruptions, more and more providers report the foundational math is no longer holding the way it once did."

With rising insurance, debt, and operating costs outpacing rents and subsidies, affordable housing is becoming harder to finance.

Kudos to Andrew Bradley of Prosperity Indiana for clearly articulating the challenges faced by so many Hoosiers. We join his call for Gov. Mike Braun to create a Commission on Housing Safety, Stability, and Affordability. Indiana needs a comprehensive statewide housing strategy to address this crisis.

Indiana’s affordability crisis isn’t just about current prices; it's about stagnant Hoosier incomes that are being left behind by those of our neighbors.

The Regional Housing Summit: reminded us that we each hold a key to unlocking solutions to addressing the housing crisis in South Central Indiana.

Builders focused on increasing housing supply through practical tools and innovations through financing, land trusts, incremental development, and new construction methods grounded in real-world examples.

Connectors emphasized relationships as a path to stability by addressing generational poverty and elevating lived experience through locally adaptable models.

Improvers explored strengthening systems by engaging landlords, improving accessibility, navigating legislation, and advancing collective impact.

We’re deeply grateful to the partners who helped make this day possible. Thank you for your investment in this work and in our region!
