Our region has partnered with Community Solutions since 2022, and in that time the support they've provided has been invaluable -- from helping us launch a monthly data dashboard, to guiding our efforts to end veteran homelessness, to connecting us with other communities doing similar work, and much, much more. Their amazing support of the new Streets to Stability initiative is just the latest example. Kudos to Community Solutions for being relentlessly positive, unfailingly strategic and always working to find paths to housing!

Thank you to everyone who joined Heading Home and United Way of South Central Indiana for our Utility Assistance Roundtable!

When we work together to address barriers before they become crises, we help more households maintain stable housing and build a stronger community.

We are grateful for the partners who continue to show up , share resources, and work collaboratively to strengthen housing security across our region.

The Streets to Stability initiative is celebrating that over the last six weeks, 13 people previously sleeping outside in downtown Bloomington have moved into stable housing with supportive services! 🎉

For some, it was the first time in years they had a place of their own. For others, having a home meant having hope again.

Our goal is to help 50 people move from sleeping outside to stable housing by the end of 2026, while building a model that can expand throughout Monroe County and eventually across South Central Indiana.

Thank you to every partner, landlord, funder, outreach worker, case manager, and community member helping make this possible. Together, we’re creating pathways from the streets to stability. ❤️🏠

As we head into the colder months, utility costs can create a significant burden for households. Join Heading Home and United Way of South Central Indiana for our Utility Assistance Roundtable to learn about programs that can help your tenants and clients stay connected to essential utilities.

Representatives from SCCAP Energy Assistance, City of Bloomington Utilities, Duke Energy, CenterPoint Energy, Xfinity, and more will share information about:

📝How to apply for financial assistance programs
❄️ Winter moratorium programs
📞 Who to contact with questions

Each utility provider will give a brief presentation, followed by time to connect and ask questions.

Heading Home of South Central Indiana was recognized by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) at the Indiana Housing Conference on September 2 with the S.P.A.R.K. Award — Serving with Partners to Achieve Real Kinesis.

This award celebrates organizations going above and beyond to serve Hoosiers experiencing homelessness through innovation, strong community partnerships, and meaningful outcomes.

From local service providers and landlords to volunteers, faith communities, healthcare partners, government agencies, people with lived experience, and community leaders, our work is stronger because we don’t do it alone. This award belongs to our incredible team (not all pictured) and to every partner who continues to show up, think creatively, and believe that housing security is something our entire region can work toward together.

On Thursday, September 3 from 8:30-10 a.m., join Mary Morgan, Heading Home's Executive Director, for "Let's Talk — an informal opportunity to connect over coffee at Brightside Cafe, 101 W. Kirkwood in downtown Bloomington. Stop by anytime during the scheduled hours to ask questions, learn more about housing and homelessness in South Central Indiana, discuss community challenges, or share your perspective.

These conversations are an opportunity to build understanding, strengthen relationships, and hear directly from the people who care about creating a community where everyone has a safe place to call home. We hope you'll pull up a chair and join the conversation!

We’re excited to launch a new podcast featuring conversations with the people who make up our region's homelessness and housing landscape — from people with lived experience to service providers, volunteers, landlords, developers, faith community, local leaders, and others working to strengthen housing security across South Central Indiana.

Each conversation offers a different perspective, with one shared goal: to help all of us see how we can be part of the solution.

In our first episode, we sit down with Mandy New to hear her story, reflect on her experiences navigating homelessness, and explore what we can learn from the people who know our community’s housing system best: those who have experienced it firsthand.

Because if we want to build a homelessness response system that truly works, we need to listen to the people who have lived it.
