Cemetery Memorial for Veterans in Bloomingdale

Cemetery Memorial for Veterans in Bloomingdale The only (to our knowledge) veterans memorial with buried relics from all major American wars. Find o Ted was a generous donor to and active member of the Post.

This organization was founded on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at a meeting called by Chuck Franzen for 7 pm at the Bloomingdale Library. Attendees were Chuck Franzen, former mayor Bob Iden, Mayor's Assistant Mary Ellen Johnson, Bloomingdale Historical Society President Bonnie Homola, and Mary and Bill Bahr. Bill first became active in this effort on the passing of Bloomingdale VFW Post member Ted Dabro

wski on May 21, 2015. Although the VFW Post considers the concrete pad and benches for all veterans, it was the inspiration of Ted Dabrowski and his family that carried the effort forth. One of the two benches honors his memory, while the other honors POWs/MIAs. The Bloomingdale Historical Society led the fundraising for the Monument. Buried at the site are relics from all major American wars. Complimenting other veteran efforts at the cemetery are the John Ross Commander's Bench and the grave markers for all (currently 83) veterans buried there, both efforts funded by the VFW. All these efforts help to bring to fruition "Chuck Franzen's Dream." For many years, Chuck has been a tireless volunteer at the Cemetery. Thanks to all supporters of this project! Bill Bahr

Our Story

This organization was founded on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at a meeting called by Chuck Franzen for 7 pm at the Bloomingdale Library. Attendees were Chuck Franzen, former mayor Bob Iden, Mayor's Assistant Mary Ellen Johnson, Bloomingdale Historical Society President Bonnie Homola, and Mary and Bill Bahr. Bill first became active in this effort on the passing of Bloomingdale VFW Post member Ted Dabrowski on May 21, 2015. Ted was a generous donor to and active member of the Post. Buried at the site are relics from all major American wars, making our village the only (to our knowledge) one in the nation to have such a memorial. Complimenting other veteran efforts at the cemetery are the John Ross Commander's Bench and the grave markers for all (currently 83) veterans buried there, both efforts funded by the VFW. Starting with the very well-attended Memorial Day ceremony, volunteers also decorate the Cemetery fence with yellow ribbons. All these efforts help to bring to fruition "Chuck Franzen's Dream." For many years, Chuck, a veteran himself, has been a tireless volunteer at the Cemetery. Thanks to all supporters of this project!
