Understanding the potential of fi****ms helps us understand their limitations.

At close range or when there's a malfunction or no ammo...CQC training is essential. Let's be honest. The majority of us will never be in this situation unless it's your job or heaven forbid you're in a drastic home defense situation. Either way, close quarters combat is what it's going to be.

Think about a house or an apartment. How much space and distance really is there? Are shots with penetrating bullets reasonable? Is it your first option? You won't know until it's time. And bc you don't know, it's important there is shooting and martial arts discipline.

Guns are for shooting...but it may not be the best option. You may have to use it as a rigid blunt force tool. Use the stock, the muzzle end, the bottom of the pistol grip or the front iron sights.

Bujinkan Kids 7-12 yrs old

Anything you do standing you should do on the ground as well. It's the same.

Bujinkan's taijutsu is not limited to any space or any rules. It provides space by becoming a safe space from within.
It's a holistic, complete martial arts system for survival and for protection.

Although it's a kids class...they were just doing double knife work right before this drill.

For home defense or self defense some train in fi****ms only some train in martial arts only. Some train in both but may not connect the two synergistically.

What's great about Bujinkan's Taijutsu is that it naturally forms the connection without disregarding anything from the other...at all. There is no need to implement any additional systems of movement other than the existing Taijutsu while keeping the attributes of the weapon in consideration. Martial arts and weapons, including fi****ms, are all about management of space, distance, timing, and potential. So it's about the constant negotiation of all those variables when any weapon or any new factor is added.

The movements of Taijutsu should be the same with or without the weapon. The goal is to be complete...to be whole...holistic. If training with weapons or added variables create divergence, it's worth reviewing your training and finding out how you can bring them closer together.

We're not a sport martial art. Bujinkan is about self defense and addressing possible multiple problems.

When it comes to self defense, home defense, law enforcement, military, etc. you can never assume it's 1vs1.

Where there is 1 there are 2. Where there are 2 there are 3. You have to survive them all.

In real life the rules were already out the door. No referee, no belt class, no weight class, nothing but you and only you.

This is no different when we say only we bring peace and happiness to ourselves by choosing it. Nobody can choose for us.

Empower yourself to be your own safe space.

Back in March, we had the honor of hosting Fellowship Housing, a local non-profit, who's mission is to empower single moms to build a new legacy.

I am always inspired by organizations that prioritize the health and wellness of their own staff. Any organization's biggest and most impactful assets are the people.

Thank you for the opportunity!

To the community out there, Fellowship Housing offers many ways you can contribute and help to the cause. Check out their page and website for details.

Kids Bujinkan 7-12 yr olds

We do a lot of bojutsu in class. It's becoming more natural in their movement to use a stick that is taller than them.

I believe it's critical to include weapons training in all aspects of martial arts regardless of the child's age. There's a responsibility that comes with holding that weapon.

Regardless of what weapon you're using, it's important to know the weapon may not always be option 1.

So many people disregard martial arts training and say "I don't need that, I have my friend G***k and Sig" or "just get a gun and train G***k Fu". On the other side, many martial artists want to train for self defense but do not incorporate weapons in their training at all.

You have to train both in order to have a holistic system. It's just what it is.

When it comes to home defense fi****ms, folks have to think and train for:

1. Do I use a firearm?
2. When do I draw or deploy it?
3. If I realize it's not needed, where do I holster it? In my jammies?
4. The home is close quarters space, am I skilled at close quarters movement with a gun in my hand?
5. If I shoot, where is the bullet going to go?
6. Am I flagging anyone with the gun that I shouldn't even if I don't see them? (Family, residents, neighbors)
7. What defensive ammo do I even have?
8. What if I encounter an intruder and they're too close for me to shoot effectively with my skill set?
9. Do I even aim with the front sight at this close range?
10. Do I have a flashlight with me so I can identify areas and people if it's dark?

It goes on and on AND all of this MUST be considered and trained for if you consider a firearm for home defense. Or else someone better trained will take your gun and the rest is history.

Big responsibility.

It's amazing how kids learn quickly and how they begin to combine their skillsets creatively.

He learned how to trap my arm with his elbow while still holding onto an adult sized sword.

Keep going buddy!
