Happy Birthday Air Force "Aim High ... Fly, Fight, Win"

The United States Air Force (USAF) is the aerial and space warfare service branch of the United States Armed Forces. It is one of the five branches of the United States Armed Forces, and one of the seven American uniformed services. Initially established as a part of the United States Army on 1 August 1907, the USAF was formed as a separate branch of the U.S. Armed Forces on 18 September 1947 with the passing of the National Security Act of 1947. It is the youngest branch of the U.S. Armed Forces, and the fourth in order of precedence. The USAF is the largest and most technologically advanced air force in the world. The Air Force articulates its core missions as air and space superiority, global integrated ISR, rapid global mobility, global strike, and command and control.

Fidelco Guide Dogs history of providing elite German Shepherd guide dogs to blinded veterans can be traced all the way back to World War II. And throughout the Korean Conflict, the Vietnam War, Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, Fidelco Guide Dogs have helped bring renewed independence and mobility to the brave men and women who protect our freedom by serving in harm’s way.

The Fidelco Ride for Independence on Sunday, October 7 presents a Field of Flags tribute to American heroes and fallen military, first responders, and veterans. Purchase your flags for all the heroes in your life to be displayed for all to admire and contemplate www.fidelco.org/field-of-flags-2018-page.

Join us Sunday, October 7 to experience the JUMPSTART™ Motorcycle Simulator!

If you’re interested in learning to ride, but have never been on a motorcycle before, please come test ride the JUMPSTART™ at our 8th Annual Ride for Independence! The JUMPSTART™ combines a Harley-Davidson® motorcycle with a specially-designed, stationary support stand. No knowledge or previous motorcycle experience necessary. The motorcycle will not move.

You’ll mount the motorcycle, set your boots on the foot pegs and fire up the engine under the watchful eye of trained personnel. And then, sitting comfortably on the motorcycle, you’ll give the throttle a twist and continue to shift through the gears – all safely and securely attached to the JUMPSTART™ platform.

Pre-registration open through Thursday, October 4 at www.fidelco.org.

Don’t limit your challenges. Challenge your limits! Fidelco Guide Dogs client Brad Snyder USA and his guide dog Gizzy epitomize challenging limits. As a swimmer for the United States Paralympic team Snyder has won five Gold medals and two Silver. He lost his eyesight from an IED explosion while serving in the United States Navy in Afghanistan. Among fully blind swimmers, he is the current world record holder for the 100-meter freestyle.

You can support elite blind athletes like Brad by registering NOW to guarantee your place in New England’s premiere motorcycle fundraiser celebrating Fidelco Guide Dogs life-improving program for blind military veterans and first responders. Riders will be wrapped in glorious fall foliage colors during this year’s Ride for Independence as they cruise a scenic, police-escorted, 50-mile route through the Connecticut hillside; treated to a delicious Bear's Smokehouse BBQ lunch and live acoustic concert featuring Dave O’Hagan, founder of legendary Shovelhead; and enjoy special Oktoberfest refreshments. Fidelco Guide Dogs: “Running With The Big Dogs”

Happy Birthday to the U.S. Coast Guard!

Each August 4 the U.S. Coast Guard celebrates its birthday.

The Coast Guard is one of America's five armed forces and traces its founding to August 4, 1790, when the first Congress authorized the construction of 10 vessels to enforce tariff and trade laws, prevent smuggling, and protect the collection of federal revenue. Responsibilities added over the years included humanitarian duties such as aiding mariners in distress.

The service received its present name in 1915 when the Revenue Cutter Service merged with the U.S. Life-Saving Service to form a single maritime service dedicated to the safety of life at sea and enforcing the nation's maritime laws.

The Coast Guard is a multi-mission, maritime, military service and the smallest of the five Armed Services. Its mission is to protect the public, the environment and U.S. economic interests in the nation's waterways, along the coast, on international waters, or in any maritime region as required to support national security.

Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation honors America’s five Armed Services annually during the Ride for Independence. This year’s Ride takes place on Sunday, October 7. Learn more about supporting the event at: www.fidelco.org.
