Bloomfield Backpack Program The Bloomfield Backpack Program is a community partnership providing groceries to families with children in Bloomfield schools who register to get support.

Food is delivered to the school, to Social Services or can be delivered to the home.

On this bright day of blue skies
when the sun sparkles on the crystal snow cumulated on the ground
when the landscape is transformed and the light is so bright that it can momentarily blind my eyes

Help me to remember that what I see as beauty from the comfort of my heated and loving home,
may be cutting and cruel to those without shelter and without a person to share it with

This does not diminish the beauty I see.
Being aware does not diminish the light.
It only serves to keep it from blinding me.
It serves to help me see.

So on this day,
as I look out my window
Help me to remember
to be like the trees I see.

Help me to remember to reach up.
Help me to remember to reach out.
Help me to remember to dig my roots deeply,
so that I may remain grounded
so that I may reach up higher
so that I may reach out farther.

And bring light to others.

So much donated that it won’t fit into one picture! Blew away our goal for backpacks and school supplies for the Blessing of the Backpacks and Backpack Giveaway at Bloomfield Congregational Church. Need one? Come to 10 Wintonbury Ave, across from the Town Green at The Heart of Bloomfield. Blessing service starts at 10am. Giveaway after service probably around 11am. Bloomfield Backpack Program

The Bloomfield Backpack Program provides food to any family with a child in the Bloomfield School System that needs a little extra help with food over the weekend. Distribution takes place each Saturday from 2pm to 4pm at Bloomfield Congregational Church which is located at 10 Wintonbury Ave at the corner of Tunxis Ave (across from the Town Green and Prosser Library). Registration is required to be part of the program. You can register directly with us or you may do so through the social workers at your local school.

Distribution takes place safely in a “Drive Thru” format due to the present Covid situation.

The Bloomfield Backpack Program is a partnership among The First Cathedral, Rehoboth Church of God, Foodshare, the Town of Bloomfield and Bloomfield Congregational Church.

To support this program you can donate electronically by going to www.firstchurchbloomfield.org, clicking the “Give” button and then selecting your cause of choice. You may also send a check to Bloomfield Congregational Church, 10 Wintonbury Ave, Bloomfield, CT 06002 and putting “Backpack Program” in the notes section. All proceeds go directly for this program.
