Davis County 2026 Seniors/Parents
April 1 - midnight deadline

Make sure you have actually 'submitted/apply' for scholarships in the "My Scholarship" section in the online application. So far, 9 have submitted--which is okay because we suggested you wait and fine-tune your app. Did you also check to see if the reference was completed by the person you included on that section? Maybe a gentle reminder to that person if it doesn't show it is done.

2026 DC Seniors/Parents
The April 1st deadline is fast approaching for the Dollars for Scholars application. One last check---get into the application and check to see if the person you asked to do a reference for you has completed it. You won't see the actual reference, but you will see if it is completed. If it isn't, kindly check with that person and let them know the deadline is April 1---and thank them for doing this.

If you never sent the request for a reference, you might check with that person before entering his/her email address since there is not much time left.

During high school, have you had a job? Did you put that info in your DFS application under "Work Experience?" What do we consider as work experience .......
- obviously, work that you receive a paycheck for counts.
- as part of your farm family, do you 'work' on the farm even if you don't get a paycheck--that counts.
- have your volunteered at the elementary as part of class in which you received a grade? We consider a grade as 'pay.'

THEN, IMPORTANT - this section asks for time or days or months. Don't just put 'babysitter' ---give us an estimated time span. If you don't, we don't know if it was 1 time or daily for 6 weeks as an example--so the more detail you give allows you to get more points on this section.

There are really 2 steps to the DFS application. The first step is to fill in information into the online application--most of you have been doing that.

Filling in the info is not "completing" the application. Step 2 is to go to the section that says "My Scholarships." WHEN done filling in all the information (we suggest you wait and do this the last week of March), you need to click the button in "My Scholarships" to submit/apply for scholarships.

When you look in "My Scholarships", one of those listed says "DFS or Dollars for Scholarships" scholarships. This one actually includes over 70 of our scholarships. You don't have to apply 70 times--selecting this one gets you entered for all of these.

But you will see a few other scholarships listed in "My Scholarships." Apply to these if you meet the criteria. You can read the criteria. For example, the DC Cattlemen have 2 scholarships--but with specific criteria. The DC A Club has 2 scholarhips--but with specific criteria. Some of these have extra requirements--like writing a short essay or getting a 2nd reference. Make sure to check out the criteria for the ones that are listed beyond the "DFS Scholarships."

Have you been an officer in an organization or have you received a 1 rating at a music contest, or have you been part of a team receiving conference or state recognition, or have you received academic honors of some sort, or have you been selected to a conference or state award-----all of these are examples of Honors and Awards.

Did you put these in your DFS application under the section for "Honors & Awards"?

Have your worked on the DFS application in the category of future plans/aspirations? This has several points and is easy to do. Tell us the post secondary college you think you will attend, what your major is (at least right now), what you want to do with that major, where you might want to work in the future---etc.

How is your DFS application coming along? Have you thought of all the activities you have been involved in (in school and in the community) in your 4 years of high school? List each with how many years: for example: Cross Country 4 years; Basketball Manager 2 years; Band 4 years; Church youth group 3 years; Jr Optimist Club, 2 years, etc.

Each section of the Dollars for Scholars (DFS) application is scored by a community person on the scholarship committee. In the past, some seniors have not taken the time to fully tell us about your activities, etc--and thus they didn't score as many points.

For example: There is a question about community service. List the different places you have volunteered AND include approx hours. For example, maybe you volunteer in concession stands--list that and give an approximate amount of hours over your 4 high school years. Maybe you volunteer during the county fair--list that. Maybe you read to elementary students, list that. Maybe you volunteer at your church--list that.

The DFS application is a nation-wide system for all that have a Dollars for Scholars organization. Each local organization will sometimes not 'require' certain pieces of information. For our organization, you . . . . .
• don't need to provide financial information (we go by merit only)
• don't need to provide your GPA/class rank/transcript (we get this from the counselor)
• don't need anything submitted under "other documents"

Of note: this nation-wide system can be used to search for scholarships that are not through our local organization. If you do that, you probably need to include the items that our organization does not require.

Did you know that if you complete the form and submit on time, that our local DFS organization guarantees you receive at least one scholarship?!!!

Have you started your Dollars for Scholars application? It is due April 1st. Over the next few weeks, we are going to post "have you" done type questions.

Today, have you filled in the section for a reference? You are to put in a person's name that will give you a reference--you need that person's email. It might be a teacher, a coach, a pastor, an employer as examples--should not be a family member. Our system sends that person the request to do the reference--you don't ever see the actual reference that is provided. BUT---make sure you ask that person if it is okay to put them down as a reference BEFORE you put it in our system--that is just a courtesy. If you already did that and didn't ask--make contact soon with that person as a courtesy. Let them know our email will come from "Scholarship America or "Dollars for Scholars" in case it goes into their spam.

Don't wait until the end of March to ask them. Ask now; check back with them perhaps the last week of March to see if it is completed.
