Please join us in welcoming Lijin Thomas, LMSW, as the new Program Director at The New Foster Care!

With more than a decade of experience in behavioral health, housing, street outreach, and supported employment, she has developed a deep understanding of how to lead services that address complex needs.

She is passionate about advancing trauma-informed support while staying true to TNFC’s mission.

Outside of work, Lijin enjoys spending time with her husband and young children, singing and dancing, and exploring the outdoors whenever Michigan weather allows.

Welcome to the team, Lijin! We know you'll make a meaningful difference in the lives of the young adults we serve!

Please help us welcome Domonique, TNFC’s new Transition Services Supervisor!

Domonique Smith brings more than a decade of experience supporting children, families, and communities navigating complex behavioral health and social service systems. Her work is grounded in trauma-informed care, advocacy, culturally responsive practice, and a commitment to strengthening systems and communities.

In her role with TNFC, Domonique provides leadership that strengthens both teams and systems while helping ensure young adults receive thoughtful, equitable support. As she completes her Doctor of Social Work degree focused on clinical leadership, she continues to deepen her expertise in organizational practice and behavioral health systems. Her faith in Jesus Christ guides how she leads and serves with compassion and purpose.

Outside of work, Domonique enjoys fashion design, beauty and wellness, and spending time with her husband and four children.

TNFC participants spent time with Felicia and the Nursing Detroit Training Center team exploring careers in healthcare through hands-on CPR, EKG, and phlebotomy demonstrations.

Participants jumped in, asked questions, practiced new skills, and learned about the many pathways into the healthcare field. We were all inspired by Felicia and her team as they shared their own stories, experiences, and the journeys that brought them to where they are today.

Thank you, Felicia and Nursing Detroit, for welcoming our community, sharing your knowledge so openly, and helping expand what feels possible in healthcare. ❤️

A new face. A shared vision. A lot to look forward to.

Please help us welcome Ashleigh, TNFC’s new Economic Development Manager!

Ashleigh brings six years of experience in community-centered development, with a focus on making sure the people most impacted by a project have a voice in shaping what comes next.

At TNFC, Ashleigh will help move our housing vision forward, starting with Hope Apartments. From building strategic partnerships and identifying funding opportunities to supporting the planning and development process, her work will help turn an ambitious vision into something tangible: safe, stable housing and greater opportunity for young adults aging out of foster care.

Outside of work, Ashleigh enjoys live music (especially jazz), exploring new restaurants and places, and spending time with her two cattle dog/blue heelers, Phoenix and Rooney.
