RAD was formed with the goal of fostering an environment to cultivate the children’s creativity and imagination through art education. session is designed to correlate with a non-school event. For example, the November session focused on creating Thanksgiving placemats with the children. Those involved included 66 volunteers, 8 classes, and over 150 elementary students. The December session took 1
28 volunteers, worked with 14 classes, and around 300 elementary school students. In the February 2011 RAD session, Craig brought 185 high school volunteers to work with 14 classes and around 300 students. Throughout the 2010-2011 school year, over 280 high school volunteers participated in RAD. Next year, AB Allam will be taking over as president of the organization. RAD will be working with not only OW Holmes School, but also Logan Elementary. With continued support, RAD hopes to continue to expand throughout Detroit Public Schools.
