Last nights storm brought down power lines on Main Street.

Main Street is CLOSED from Simpson St. to Highway K45.

DO NOT DRIVE OVER DOWN POWER LINES.

The U.S. Wildland Fire Service is devastated to share that three wildland firefighters lost their lives on Saturday, June 27, as part of an interagency response to the Knowles and Gore fires along the Colorado-Utah border. Additionally, two crew members were injured in the line of duty and have been transported to a hospital.

Our immediate focus is on supporting their families, friends, and fellow crewmates during this incredibly difficult time.

The U.S. Wildland Fire Service stands united with the USDA Forest Service in grief and in our unwavering support for the loved ones left behind. Their bravery, dedication, and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Additional details will be shared as they are able to be released.

With severe weather season being upon us there are other things to get together other than just your shelter plan.

Items to keep in your shelter include:

• Flashlights + extra batteries
• Weather radio
• Phone chargers/power banks
• Shoes (important for debris)
• Blankets/sleeping bags
• Water and non perishable snacks (crackers, applesauce, peanut butter, etc.)
• Medications
• First aid kit
• Important documents in waterproof bag (drivers lisence, etc.)
• Pet supplies if needed

We are in a tornado watch! Everyone have your emergency plan and supplies ready to go. If you are traveling, have your travel plan timed so you are near shelter if needed.

Please remain vigilant, have multiple warning sources, and storm plan in place this afternoon and into the evening as the severe weather potential continues to develop.

The chance of a tornado developing this evening has climbed in east-central Nebraska (Omaha/Council Bluffs/Lincoln/Wahoo).

A quick look at our history suggests this is the highest forecast probability of a tornado in the Omaha area since June 2014.
