Pine Mountain Settlement School

Pine Mountain Settlement School Established in 1913, Pine Mountain Settlement School is located in the mountains of Appalachia in Southeastern Kentucky.

We are a National Historic Landmark on 1000 pristine acres in Harlan County, Kentucky. Our mission is to enrich lives and connect people through Appalachian place-based education for all ages. We offer classes, events, and lodging and event spaces. All revenues support our local community through environmental education, agriculture and sustainability, and traditional craft initiatives.

We're thrilled to discover that a large number of our followers and supporters call Lexington home, so we thought it was time we met some of you in person! We're excited to announce that we'll be hosting a meetup at Mirror Twin Brewery on October 8th from 6-9pm, and we'd love for you to join us!

To make the evening even more special, we've collaborated with the brewery to create two signature drinks just for the occasion: the Lady Lager and Heart N' Craven. Don't worry, you definitely don't need to be a beer enthusiast to join in on the fun - we just want to hang out and get to know the people who make our community so awesome! We'll have games, good company, and plenty of opportunities to make new friends, so mark your calendars for October 8th and come on down to Mirror Twin Brewery. The creek running through our campus has long been a place of learning and exploration, where students of all ages have discovered the wonders of nature and developed a deeper appreciation for the environment! Next week, we are welcoming our homeschool retreat on campus, where kids will have the opportunity to experience the magic of Pine Mountain Settlement School and learn from our creek in a hands-on and interactive way.

For the past few months, the Historic Harlan Museum has been proud to host the Pine Mountain Settlement School’s exhibit featuring the history of its historic chapel.

This special exhibit has given visitors an opportunity to learn more about the chapel, its place in the history of Pine Mountain Settlement School, and the people and stories connected to it.

Wednesday, September 2, is the final day to view the exhibit at the Museum!

If you haven’t had a chance to stop by, now is the time. We’re grateful to the Pine Mountain Settlement School for sharing this wonderful piece of our region’s history with our community.

Heritage in Hand is fast approaching! If you were considering signing up, now is the time. We will have to cancel some classes if we don't get more registrations by this Friday!

Classes available are: Advanced Stained Glass on Thursday and Friday, Beginner Stained glass on Tuesday and Wednesday, Wild Basketry Tuesday through Friday, and Blacksmithing Tuesday and Wednesday.

Pricing includes lodging, meals, classes and materials. Pricing varies based on class but trust us, it's worth every penny. We also accept payment plans at checkout. If you are a local and not wanting to stay on campus please message us for a discounted rate.

You arrive the night before your classes start and are provided a dinner that night. This is a great event! We really hope to see you there!!
