CERT Training Teaches You How to Prepare for a Disaster!
Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) programs provide free training to help individuals and communities prepare for and respond to emergencies and disasters. CERT training equips Tennesseans with essential life‑saving skills to care for themselves and neighbors until emergency services arrive. When sponsored by a local government agency or recognized organization, CERT‑trained volunteers may also assist local authorities when emergency response resources are overwhelmed following a major disaster.

Want to Start a CERT Program?
Many Tennessee communities and organizations have adopted CERT as a core emergency preparedness initiative to strengthen local resilience and self-reliance. Volunteer Tennessee provides guidance and acts as a State liaison for locally led CERT programs in Tennessee. There is a very good chance that your neighborhood may be on its own during the early stages following a catastrophic disaster until professionals can respond.
After a catastrophic disaster, citizens will volunteer to help. Without proper training these people can expose themselves to potential injury and even death.
Experience has shown that basic training in disaster survival and rescue skills improves the ability of citizens to survive until responders or other assistance arrives.

Celebrating VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS POST 10904, MANCHESTER
2025 Governor's Volunteer Stars Awards Recipient:
EAST TENNESSEE NONPROFIT HONOREE
VFW Post 10904's mission is to assist veterans, their families and the broader community by educating the public regarding the needs and sacrifices of Veterans, honoring military service and supporting schools, students and teachers.
Its volunteers create and lead impactful programs that preserve local history, strengthen patriotism and provide direct support to those in need. In 2025 alone, VFW Post 10904 established the Veterans Hall of Honors in Coffee County, restoring and displaying more than 300 veteran photos. It also created the Solar Cross Memorial Day Project, the Veterans Flag Project and participated in numerous countywide ceremonies, including the annual Veterans Day Parade and the Vietnam-Era Veterans Honors Dinner. Volunteers support veterans, schools, scouts, first responders
and community programs through donations, events and classroom engagement. They also perform funeral honors for local families. All initiatives are developed and carried out by members who meet regularly to plan new projects and address community needs. The organization’s creativity and commitment have earned multiple state and national awards recognizing its outstanding volunteerism and service.
