MARS update:
Government liaison for Army MARS, Lieutenant General Susan Lawrence has reversed the decision to phase out the use of the WinLink 2000 global radio e-mail system by Army MARS members.

Gen. Lawrence stated that the Army, after reviewing its capabilities, had decided that the continued use of WinLink 2000 was a valuable asset to Army MARS members and agencies that were using the service. She issued a statement to that effect on December 21, 2011. On January 5, 2012, the Chief of Army MARS officially notified his membership that the phase-out notice had been rescinded.

Army MARS members and agencies who had been using the service hailed the decision by Gen. Lawrence and resumed the use of WinLink 2000.

Dear Bland County Amateur Radio community.
We are in the middle of an unofficial incident in Rocky Gap right now with flood waters.
Do not deploy.
Do not self-deploy.
Do not drive through flooded areas.
All ARES Personnel please contact me.
Will be monitoring the repeater147.330 +6 100 tone.
We are trying to assess what resources we have at this moment in time.
If you are an amateur radio operator in the Bland County area. And you want to be ready to assist. Feel free to call me at 757-532-9329. I need to know what mobile units and antennas you can use. What handhelds you can use and hf base units. We are currently standing by and getting ready only. If you contact me by phone or by the 147.330 I will put you on the list of contacts "if" we deploy. Again do not self-deploy.
