Today is Indigenous Peoples' Day, and we are reflecting on a few stories featured in our collection here at the Blanco Library.

There is a future where neighborhoods are full of people who see their landscapes as part of a larger ecosystem. A HOMEGROWN NATIONAL PARK.

Dr. Doug Tallamy helped start the Homegrown National Park movement to inspire people to restore native habitats in their own yards and communities. The goal? To create a massive, interconnected network of biodiversity, one patch of habitat at a time.

Imagine the largest “National Park” in the country, built one yard, park, pocket meadow, and neighborhood at a time.

This Saturday, the Blanco Library will screen The Extraordinary Caterpillar, a film featuring Doug Tallamy that takes a deep dive into the fascinating world of caterpillars, the native plants they depend on, and the vital role they play in our local ecosystems.

Every patch of habitat matters. Come see something extraordinary, and learn how you can become a part of the Homegrown National Park Movement!

Our annual Friends of the Library Membership Drive is on, and we just want to give this great group of people some love for all the ways they help make the library feel like home. From the Blanco County Bake Off to the cozy, newly remodeled Friends Sale Section and their help with our front porch refresh, the Friends have found all kinds of ways to bring a little more fun and warmth to this space.
