Made for More Means: Family🩵

What does family mean to you?

Family can have many definitions. It can be a group of people connected by birth, marriage, adoption, or other relationship. It can be people who share a common ancestry—or simply people united by shared convictions, values, or a common bond.💙

At Grace Home, family means many things.

It means individuals connected by birth and ancestry. It means individuals welcomed into a loving family through adoption and shared experiences. And it means that you don’t have to share the same birthright or ancestry to belong.🩵

At Grace Home, family means a sense of belonging.

It means working together toward a common goal. It means learning to trust, love, and respect the people with whom you now share life. It means community, safety, kindness, patience, learning, nurturing, and growing together.💙

At Grace Home, family means finding a place where you belong—and growing together along the way.🩵

The Grace Home Chicken Coop 💛

There’s more happening in the chicken coop than gathering eggs! 🐔🥚

At Grace Home, even everyday responsibilities are opportunities for growth. Caring for our chickens means showing up each day to make sure they have food and water, keeping their space clean, gathering eggs, and paying attention to their needs. And, of course, there’s the reward of fresh eggs to share around the Grace Home table!

We love watching our ladies discover that building a healthy, independent life often happens through the little things—learning to be faithful with today’s responsibilities as they prepare for tomorrow.

At Grace Home, even the chicken coop can be a classroom. ❤️

Staff Reflection -
One Moment I’ll Never Forget
by Jennifer Dunn🧡

One moment that I'll never forget? I think this is nearly impossible to answer. Why? Because being at Grace home is full of moments that I'll never forget.

I remember the time Mama JJ came running into the house screaming in Chinese and English, trying to tell me about the horrible, terrible evil monster that was on the porch. I ran over thinking it was a snake or something. It was a frog. Poor frog. It was totally misunderstood.

Then there was a time when Mama B. decided that she was going to call my name when I was in my bedroom and I opened the door and she was plastered to the door and scared me so bad that I almost fell over.

Then there's Mama S., who thinks it's funny to scare me occasionally when I come around a corner. It is quite funny, but don't tell her.

Watching the ladies bond while doing things like line dance exercises in the front room, cooking, gardening, or playing volleyball at the 4th of July picnic in Newcastle, and dozens of other memories, remind me that there are a lot of good things in this life - good times worth waiting for. They truly inspire me to look at life one moment at a time and not stay stuck in the difficult ones. It's amazing that when you do that, life really is beautiful.

Maybe if I had to pick one, it would be the time that Mama JJ and I were talking about her probably having to move back to China. I started quietly crying and told her that I felt guilty because I knew that God was going to use her for great things, but I was selfish and I didn't want her to go because it's dangerous and it doesn't seem fair. She looked at me and said with a smile, "It's okay, Jennifer. It's my fault that I'm in this position, and I have to go back and tell my family about Jesus." Talk about being humbled. The baby teaches the elder. She's only been a Christian for a couple of years, and I have been a Christian for about 45 years.

I think working at Grace Home is one of the ways God gives me encouragement and strength to do the hard things that He requires of me.

Isaiah 40:29 says, "He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak."
I see Him do this with the incredible women of Grace Home, and I know that, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Phillipians 4:13.💛

Made for More Lunch - August
Focus: Words that Build🤍

At August’s Made for More Lunch, our residents learned about the importance of their words, how words affect others, and how important it is to speak kindly.

“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”
Ephesians 4:29🤍
