2 Timothy | Caption the Chapter

You’ve read it. Now let’s begin studying it.

Open your Bible to 2 Timothy 1 and remember: you’re not racing through the text. Slow down. Read for comprehension. Ask the Holy Spirit to illuminate God’s Word and help you understand what you’re reading.

Then grab your journal.

Here’s today’s exercise:

CAPTION THE CHAPTER.

In five words or less, write a creative title that captures what you believe 2 Timothy 1 is about.

We already do this with familiar passages:

1 Corinthians 13 — “The Love Chapter”
Hebrews 11 — “The Hall of Faith”

Now do it yourself with 2 Timothy 1.

What stands out?
Encouragement?
Faithfulness?
God’s gifting?
Courage?
The gospel?

There isn’t a lesson you have to teach or a complicated answer you have to discover. You’re simply learning to slow down, observe the text, and put what you’re seeing into your own words.

Read it. Think about it. Journal it.

Then give 2 Timothy 1 a caption.

2 Timothy | Learning to Study the Bible

You can learn to study Scripture for yourself.

Over the next few weeks, we’re walking through 2 Timothy—a deeply personal letter from Paul to a young pastor he loved, encouraged, and invested in.

But we’re doing more than studying what Paul wrote. I want to help YOU develop the tools to open God’s Word and study it on your own.

So here’s your first assignment:

Grab your Bible.
Grab a pen and journal.
Open to 2 Timothy 1.

Then READ.

Read it slowly.
Read it for comprehension.
Read it again.
And on your third time through, read it out loud.

There’s no timer. There’s no stopwatch. The goal isn’t to finish quickly. The goal is to understand what you’re reading.

Write things down. Pay attention. Take your time.

Because we’re not simply reading Scripture for INFORMATION.

We’re reading Scripture for TRANSFORMATION.

And as you read 2 Timothy, remember the pastors faithfully serving all around us—especially those leading small and mid-sized churches. Find one and encourage them today.

October is Pastor Appreciation Month.

And encouragement may mean more than we realize.

Many pastors spend their lives pouring into other people.

Teaching.

Leading.

Listening.

Walking with people through some of the hardest moments of their lives.

But who is pouring into them?

That’s part of why Not by Sight exists.

To encourage pastors.

To build relationships.

To remind them they don’t have to carry everything alone.

Because when you encourage a pastor, the impact doesn’t stop with one person.

It reaches families.

Churches.

Communities.

And people you may never meet.

That’s the ripple effect.

So this October, find a pastor and encourage him.

Send the text.

Make the call.

Buy the coffee.

Pray for him.

Remind him that what he does matters — and that he matters too.

And throughout the month, we’ll be spending some time together in 2 Timothy.

Let’s encourage those who spend so much of their lives encouraging others.

One year. So many prayers. So many people. So much to be thankful for. ❤️

On November 1, we’re celebrating the first anniversary of Not By Sight, and I’d love for you to come be part of it.

This evening is simply our way of saying thank you to the friends, board members, volunteers, contributors, pastors, and supporters who have encouraged this ministry and helped carry the mission forward.

God has been incredibly faithful through this first year, and none of us walks this road alone.

Want to finish the New Testament before the end of the year?

Here’s a simple way to do it.

Starting October 1, you can jump into **The Bible Recap** with Tara-Leigh Cobble and begin the New Testament chronologically.

A few chapters of Scripture.

A short recap afterward.

About 20 minutes a day.

That’s it.

One of the biggest reasons people struggle to read the Bible consistently is simple:

They don’t have a plan.

This gives you one.

October.

November.

December.

And by the end of the year, you’ve walked through the New Testament.

At our house, we try to make it **Scripture before scrolling**.

Maybe October 1 is a good day for you to start too.

You are not an accident.

The experiences you’ve lived through.

The gifts you’ve been given.

The things you’re naturally good at.

Even the things that have stretched you.

God can use all of it.

Your life has been shaped over time, and there is treasure in what He has placed within you.

But treasure is meant to be used.

Psalm 24:1 says:

“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.”

That includes you.

Your time.

Your talents.

Your story.

So don’t overlook what God has already put in your hands.

Recognize it.

Develop it.

Use it.

And let it become a blessing to somebody else.

Do you know what God has placed in you?

Your life is more than your title.

Father. Mother. Teacher. Mechanic. CEO.

Those may describe what you do.

But Scripture reminds us that we are also **stewards**.

In Matthew 25, Jesus tells a story about talents entrusted to people—and what they chose to do with them.

So here’s the question:

Are you investing what God has given you?

Your experiences.

Your gifts.

Your abilities.

Even the difficult things you’ve walked through.

Your life is a treasure chest, but treasure was never meant to stay buried.

Open it.

Share it.

Pour into somebody else.

What God has placed in you may be exactly what someone else needs today.

I’m incredibly grateful for Janie’s kind words.

What means even more to me is the friendship behind them. God has placed some wonderful people in my life who have encouraged me, prayed for me, and walked alongside me through different seasons.

Thank you, Janie, for the love and encouragement. I don’t take it for granted.

God is good, and I’m thankful for the people He puts in our path. ❤️
