Sons of Norway Blair

Sons of Norway Blair Fagernes Lodge 5-616 meets the fourth Saturday at the Blair Lutheran Church, 126 S. Peterson Ave. Blair WI 54616

The Sons of Norway was organized as a fraternal benefit society by 18 Norwegian immigrants in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on January 16, 1895. The purposes and goals of the Founding fathers were to protect the members of Sons of Norway and their families from the financial hardships experienced during times of sickness or death in the family. Over time, the mission of Sons of Norway was expanded to include the preservation of Norwegian heritage and culture in our Society.

It's the middle of June, but it isn't to late for children to be signed up to go to the District 5 Norwegian Camp, Masse Moro. There is room for some more children. If you have a child 9 -15 that would like to go to a great camp, Masse Moro could be just that place!! The child does not have to be a relative of a Sons of Norway member, or have Scandinavian roots. Everyone is welcome!

I was recently in a meeting with the staff who will be running the camp this year. They've done an AWESOME job of getting personnel hired and planning the program for the kids. It will be a fantastically great year for Masse Moro in 2026.

Know someone who might like to go? Refer them to www.massemoro.org for all the information and application. They'll be glad you told them about it. It will be so much fun! Feel free to copy and paste this into your own page or other social media venue. Mange takk!

Sleepaway youth camp for 9 -15 year olds that focuses on Norwegian culture and language. It is sponsored by Sons of Norway Fifth District but is open to anyone.

It's almost May. Do you know where your kids and grandkids, other young relatives and friends are going this summer for a camp?

Have I got a great suggestion for you. Check out the flyer below and the ask those children if they would like to go to a 2-week, fun-filled, exciting adventure at the Masse Moro (the name means Lots of Fun) camp in Fall Creek, Wisconsin. It is a Norwegian based camp, but they do all KINDS of stuff. You don't have to be of Norwegian descent to go there. Everyone is welcome!!!

Every child I've talked to who has been to this camp wants to come back every year until they are too old. THEN, they come back as volunteers and counselors in future years!
There is still room for more campers. Check it out!

The fruit is washed; the pies are baked; the krumkake, rosettes, and cookies are packaged.

As we need to be at the Blair Lutheran Church at 8:00 a.m. to set up for the the Frokost and Craft and Bake Sale, all the food has to be ready to go very early tomorrow.

I just made several batches of rommegrot. It turned out great! I used the rommegrot recipe of Doris Boe, from the Friendly Fifth Favorites recipe book. If you have cows, the ingredients are cheap. If you don't have cows, rommegrot is a pricey thing to make, with heavy cream and half-and-half and butter.
It will be warmed up tomorrow and ready for you to eat at the Fagernes Lodge Frokost (brunch) Craft and Bake Sale - 9:00 - 12:00, Blair Lutheran Church, 129 S. Peterson Ave, Blair.

Obituary for long-time Fagernes Lodge member, Cindi Anderson. The Fagernes Lodge Singers will sing at the funeral in honor of Cindi.

Cynthia Rae (nee Berg) Anderson passed away on April 6th, 2026, with her family she held so dearly by her side. Cynthia was born on September 5th, 1948 in Whitehall, WI to James and Isla Berg. A proud lifelong resident of Blair, Cynthia grew up traveling around the coulee region with her father, delivering poultry to restaurants and businesses from the family business. On June 20th, 1970, she married the love of her life, Layne, and they shared nearly 56 years of marriage together.

In her later years, she developed an affinity for the history of her hometown and was an avid collector of Blair advertising items and memorabilia. Her love and passion for history brought her to own an antique shop, called Grandma's Attic. Cindi also had a great interest in genealogy and spent countless hours researching her background and ancestry.

As a proud Norwegian, she thoroughly embraced her heritage and made multiple trips to Norway, having a deep appreciation for the land her family had originated from. She was also a member of the Sons of Norway. In her home, she decorated with a myriad of rosemaling and pieces of Norwegian art. Christmas dinner at Cindi's always included the traditional lutefisk, meatballs, and lefse served on rosemaled dishes with Norwegian pewter flatware. Aside from just Norway, Cindi had a deep love for travel in general. She made many extensive road trips across the country and was in the process of planning a trip to Hawaii at the time of her passing.

Above all else, Cindi profoundly cherished her family and spending time with the ones she loved. She was notorious for her sense of humor, with her Facebook posts and comments always bringing a laugh. Cindi's contagious smile, positivity, selflessness, and loving personality will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Cynthia is survived by her husband Layne, her children, Kristen and Erick (Janna), and grandchildren, Benjamin (Hailee) and Bailey (Victoria).

She is preceded in death by her parents James and Isla Berg, brothers James Jr and Gregory, father and mother-in-law Lyle and Doris Anderson, niece Jacqueline Hamilton and a beloved infant great-granddaughter.

Funeral services for Cynthia will take place on Saturday April 18th at 5:00 at Zion Lutheran Church in Blair, with visitation beginning at 3:00. Burial and Scandinavian refreshments to follow.

Obituary by Bailey Anderson, grandson.

It's April and there is ice on our peach and pear trees. The lilacs have been producing buds already. I hope they are tough enough to withstand this April Ice.

It's a good day for baking and inside stuff. I'll be baking today for the Sons of Norway Fagernes Lodge Frokost (Brunch), Craft and Bake Sale. It isn't until April 18, 2026 at 9 - 12 at Blair Lutheran Church, but what I'm making freezes well.

This is your "Save the Date" message for our event. You like Norwegian baking, like rosettes, but don't make them yourself? You'll have the chance to buy items like that, and support our fundraiser the helps children going to Norwegian camp. There will be a brunch to partake, so skip the Corn Flakes that morning and come on over for a yummy meal, including rommegrot!
