A few small tributes have been set up today at the Veterans Memorial Park of Blaine in honor of the 82nd Anniversary of D-Day. My great friend and Omaha Beach D-Day Veteran Friend Stan Nelson’s bench is decorated along with the images of the 3 last surviving shipmates of the LCI 492. A Gold Star wreath and flags have been placed at the WWII monument which features the photo titled “Into the Jaws of Death, and poppies have been placed in the hand of our Fallen Soldier monument, titled “Tell my mom I Love Her”. June 6, 1994. 82 Years Ago. Operation Overload, code named Operation Neptune, D-DAY. The largest Amphibious Assault in World history. An event that changed the world. The invasion began shortly after midnight with extensive aerial an naval bombardment, as well as an Airborne Assault. The amphibious landings began at 6:30 am, (in the U.S. 11:30 pm, June 5th Central War Time). The U.S. and allied troops began their assault of the 50 mile stretch of the Normandy Coast containing Utah Beach, Pointe du Hoc, Omaha Beach, Gold Beach, Juno Beach, and Sword Beach. The allies suffered over 10,300 casualties with approximately 2400 on Omaha Beach. Stop up and help us pay tribute to our Fallen D-Day Heroes.
