The Supreme Court decision yesterday granting marriage equality to gay and le***an couples stands on the backs of those who came before us. We owe Mildred and Richard a big thank you for having had the courage on Jun 12, 1967 to be the case that changed history...then and now...for if it were not for them, we would not be experiencing the historic Supreme Court ruling today, June 26, 2015.
In honor or Loving vs. Virginia and Mildred and Richard's LOVE, It's time to repost this from June 12, 2015...
With gratitude to Mildred and Richard Loving. If it were not for your love, our country would not have been given the opportunity to again be on right side of history. Because of what you did, our country answered the call with this ruling.
The ruling was also historic because only 4% of Americans in 1958 approved of marriages between black and white partners, while up to 64% (varies among polls but all close...see link below) favor marriage equality for same gender partners in 2015. If there were ever a case for the Supreme Court to vote YES on marriage equality, now is the time as the PEOPLE have spoken! If the Supreme Court could do the right thing when the people were not in favor, surely, they can say YES and do the right thing when the majority of the people are in favor.
Gallup’s Minority Rights and Relations poll in 2013 shows how far we've come for sure. In 2013, according to the poll, 87% of Americans approved of marriages between black and white partners, compared to 4% of Americans in 1958. The bigger question is "Why isn’t the number at 100%? What the heck are the other 13% of Americans thinking? What's holding them back?" http://www.gallup.com/…/163697/approve-marriage-blacks-whit… provides
Less than 20 years ago, in 1995, only 48% of U.S. residents approved of such of in*******al marriages. And while it's good that attitudes have changed, the 87% figure remains mind-boggling. Why isn’t the number at 100%? What the heck are the other 13% of Americans thinking? What's holding them back?

On this day in history, the Supreme Court struck down laws banning in*******al couples from marriage.
