What began in 2014 as a single baseball game has grown into a dynamic program that now includes baseball, basketball, and soon, kickball. Kara's Game was first held in the summer of 2014 as a single T-ball game created especially for the most precious children in our community—those with special needs. It was named in honor of Kara Mitchell, a beloved young girl who earned her angel wings in 2013
at just 9 years old. The event was the brainchild of Rocky Wood, who recognized that while there was always a group of enthusiastic children cheering from the stands at sporting events, many of them never had the chance to play. In the summer of 2015, due to overwhelming interest from families and generous support from the community, that single game blossomed into a full tournament. By the summer of 2019, Kara's Game had grown even further, with 10 teams playing a full summer season. Although games were paused during the summers of 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19, plans were soon underway for a “Fall Ball” season in 2021 to reunite our players and continue the game they love. In the years that followed, the success and spirit of Kara’s Game inspired even more growth. Recognizing the desire of our athletes to try new challenges and experience a variety of sports, we expanded beyond baseball. Basketball was introduced as a new program, bringing the same inclusive, supportive environment indoors—allowing players to build confidence and community year-round. As interest continued to grow, so did our vision. In 2025, we’re proud to debut our newest sport: kickball—an exciting addition that blends fun, movement, and teamwork for players of all abilities. With this expansion came a natural evolution. To reflect our broader mission and growing community of athletes, Kara’s Game has officially rebranded as KG Sports—honoring our roots while embracing the future. KG Sports remains committed to our founding belief: that every individual, regardless of age or ability, deserves the chance to play. All of our programs are offered at no cost to the player and are made possible entirely through donations, fundraising events, and the unwavering support of our community. From one game in 2014 to a growing league of sports and smiles, KG Sports continues to champion inclusion, joy, and the power of play—for everyone.
