Located in beautiful Blackshear, GA this Club meets every Wednesday at 12:15 pm at Smokehouse 84 in The Cotton Exchange on Hwy 84.

Pierce County Family Connection Director Stephanie Bell spoke to the Rotary Club about the upcoming Storybook Beginnings Community Baby Shower & Family Literacy Day, Saturday, June 27, 10 am 1 pm at the NFC Gym in Blackshear. Rotary Club will join community partners at the event by volunteering to read to children at the event’s Storybook Garden.

The community baby shower is designed to support healthy babies, strong families, and a lifelong love of reading. Families can enjoy:

🎁 Free diapers, wipes, books, and family resources
🛏️ Free Pack 'n Plays (while supplies last)
🚗 Car seat safety checks and free car seats for qualifying families
🆔 Kid ID fingerprinting and identification kits
📖 Storybook Garden featuring local readers throughout the day
👶 Stroller Parade with prizes for the best-decorated stroller
🌭 Free food and family-friendly activities
📚 Information on literacy, early childhood development, and community resources

The event's mission is simple: promote healthy babies, literacy, family engagement, and community connection, Bell says. Every child in attendance will have the opportunity to take home a free book, and families can learn about resources available throughout our community.

Blackshear Rotary Club was proud to recognize PCHS STAR Student Belle Sinclair and STAR Teacher Becky King at Honors Night. Club President Stacey Thrift also presented Service Above Self Awards to Aaden Carlson and Reegan Smith.

Jill Clary, Pierce County’s new 4H agent, was the guest speaker at yesterday's Rotary Club meeting. Clary is a UGA graduate, originally from Cu***ng, Ga. She has been working with the Wayne County 4H program for four years and is excited to lead the Pierce County program going forward.

Clary gave an overview of the program’s 2025-2026 year which served 587 students – 43% elementary, 51% middle school and 5% high school students. The program primarily focuses on ag education in the classroom for fifth and sixth grade. Seventh – 12th graders meet monthly after school. The Club will take 33 campers to Camp Jekyll this summer.

Candi Lee, nurse manager at the Pierce County Health Department, was the guest speaker at today's Rotary Club meeting. She provided an overview of services offered at the health department and briefly discussed the impact of vaccine hesitancy. Candi also answered questions from club members on a variety of community health topics.

From Waycross to medical school—and back again. 💙

Dr. Mary Catherine Stewart, a third-year Family Medicine resident and Waycross native, will be joining BFP full-time this August after graduating in June. She was a guest speaker at this week's Club meeting.

With a passion for preventive care, plans to pursue lactation certification, and a heart for hospice and palliative care, she’s dedicated to building a life and career right here in the community she loves.

We’re proud to have her home. 🩺

Angie Murray-Southeast Cancer Unit was guest speaker at last weeks Rotary meeting. The SECU is devoted to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by cancer in Brantley, Pierce and Ware Counties. After SIX YEARS the SECU is excited to host the Cancer Walk again this year on April 24th at Tiger field, beginning at 6pm and ending at midnight.

The Blackshear Rotary Club was honored to welcome PCHS Senior and STAR Student, Belle Sinclair, along with her STAR Teacher Becky King as recent guest. Belle is an outstanding student whose academic excellence, leadership involvement, and athletic success have distinguished her among her peers. Most notably she was selected as PCHS STAR student-a recognition awarded to the Senior with the highest SAT score. Throughout her high school career, Sinclair has demonstrated a commitment to excellence both inside and outside the classroom.
During her visit, Sinclair shared insights about her academic journey and mentors who have influenced her success such as STAR Teacher, Becky King. Mrs. King was recognized for the impact she has made on Belle’s academic journey.
The Blackshear Rotary Club remains proud to recognize students who exemplify leadership, service and academic excellence within the community.

Pierce County Fire Chief Chris Todd was our guest at last week’s meeting. He gave us several updates on the fire department and updated us on things to look for in the future with the department. Currently the county fire department operates with two employees and 68 volunteers. Last year they responded to 858 calls, with the Hacklebarney community experiencing the highest number of incidents. We appreciate Chief Todd taking time out of his busy schedule to speak with us and share his commitment to always do what’s best for the community.
